The Superintendent Fixed Equipment supervises day-to-day maintenance engineering support for the Lake Charles Refinery. The Superintendent Fixed Equipment is responsible for setting the expectations and leading the Team to develop repair and long-term reliability plans that comply with applicable codes and standards, effectively mitigate risk, and provide the lowest life-cycle cost.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Support the professional development of the Maintenance Engineers Mechanical Design Engineers through:
- Individualized training plan
- Monthly one-on-one meetings to provide coaching, feedback, and mentoring
- Discuss long term goals and next assignment
- Challenges individuals to grow professionally, assigns tasks to foster development
- Monitor the overall day-to-day and long-term needs of the refinery
- Participates in the daily refinery morning meeting
- Evaluates the workload for each individual and addresses concerns early before they become a problem
- Support the Area Reliability Engineers & Reliability Lead to drive resolution of reliability “bad actors”
- Identify gaps, trends and vulnerabilities in current maintenance plans; sees opportunities
- Stays abreast of new technology and leverages opportunities for the refinery to be more efficient
- Act as an MOC Evaluator, managing the status of MOCs, SPHERA Action Items, CBTs, and STO Action Items assigned to the team
- Plan and staff engineering support for Turnarounds and assist with project assessments for long-range capital planning and risk reviews
- Provide HSE leadership, prepare and conduct staff meetings, and maintain open communication with Mechanical and Operations peers to identify and resolve issues
- Manages SAP approvals

Required Qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering
- 3 or more years of maintenance engineering and reliability experience
- Refinery Turnaround experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of industry and company codes and standards
- Computer proficiency including applications Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, as well as SAP
- Currently hold, or willing and able to obtain, a valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC
- Willing and able to perform the following:
- Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
- Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
- Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat
- Wear fire retardant clothing and person protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
- Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples included being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
Preferred Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
- 10 or more years of relevant experience in refining, petrochemical and/or related industry
- Working proficiency in PCMS and PI Vision
- Strong oral/written communication skills and the ability to interact and work in a team environment
- Self- motivated, proactive, creative, flexible, results-oriented
- Able to handle multiple tasks, be well organized, detail-oriented, and have good interpersonal skills
- Able to interact with all levels of the organization and possess a strong customer and business acumen
The Lake Charles Refinery is located in Westlake, Louisiana. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. Facilities also include a specialty coker and calciner. The refinery processes a mixture of light to heavy, low- and high sulfur and low- and high-acid crude oils. It receives domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil through truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals, including the Beaumont and Clifton Ridge terminals and the Bayou Bridge Pipeline. Lake Charles produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include off-road diesel, home heating oil, feedstock for our Excel Paralubes joint venture, specialty graphite petroleum coke and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed in the southeastern and eastern United States by truck, rail car, barge or pipelines and exported to Latin America and West Africa.
