What to Expect

As a Turnaround Specialist, you will play a key role in planning and executing complex turnaround events that keep our refinery running safely and efficiently. You’ll develop detailed work scopes, schedules, and resource plans, partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure every milestone is met on time and within budget. From optimizing workflows to interpreting technical diagrams, you’ll lead efforts that minimize downtime and maximize performance. Your work will drive continuous improvement, enhance safety standards, and deliver results that support both immediate operational needs and long-term strategic goals.

 

What You'll Do

  • Develop and manage detailed maintenance plans and schedules for routine overhauls and inspections to optimize equipment use and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to refine work scopes, analyze maintenance data, and adjust schedules as needed.
  • Create accurate job packages, estimate labor and materials, and build task libraries for repeatable jobs using IPS and other planning tools.
  • Track TA milestones and maintain accurate planning metrics to ensure efficiency and predictability.
  • Partner with craftspeople and supervisors to critique and refine plans, ensuring each job is executed efficiently and safely.
  • Drive continuous improvement by shaping work processes, implementing best practices, and fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence.
  • Interpret equipment diagrams, optimize resource utilization, and support training initiatives to enhance team performance.
  • Leverage your technical expertise and commitment to excellence to contribute to a productive, safe, and collaborative work environment.

What You’ll Bring – Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
  • Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodations, to comply with the following:
    • Travel up to 5%
    • Operate company vehicle on site premises and / or public roads up to 50%
    • Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, and perform occasional duties.
    • Transport articles up to 50 pounds
    • Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet
    • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines, around chemicals and hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat, and in harsh weather conditions
    • Wear fire-retardant clothing and personal protective equipment
    • Maintain face daily for proper respirator/face mask seal. (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3 or more years of craft or operations experience in the Energy industry

 

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 or more years of craft or operations experience in the Energy industry
  • 5 or more years of experience in maintenance planning related to safety, craft knowledge, materials, CPM logic, and logistics
  • Proficiency working in Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Proficiency in SAP for the ODM work process (MM, PM, PS modules)
  • Ability to plan multi-craft jobs
  • Working knowledge of engineering, safety, and IHS standards and procedures
  • Able to read and perform material take-offs from isometrics and equipment drawings
  • Understands and uses functional expertise to contribute to the success of the business
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply information from files, drawings, catalogs, reports and manual

 

Compensation Range 

This position has a base salary range of $124,200 - $151,800.

Where a candidate offer falls within the posted range depends on the candidate's experience, skills, and alignment with the role’s requirements. The Sweeny Refinery is located in Old Ocean, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization, and aromatics units, as well as access to the on-site vacuum tower and delayed coking unit, which is an asset owned by Phillips 66 Partners. Sweeny processes heavy, high-sulfur crude oil and some light, low sulfur crude oil. Domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil is transported by truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, heating oil and petroleum coke. The refinery receives crude oil by pipeline and via tankers, through terminals on the Gulf Coast, including a deepwater terminal at Freeport. Refined products are distributed throughout the Midcontinent region, southeastern and eastern United States by pipeline, barge and rail car. Refined products are also exported to Latin America by waterborne cargo.
