Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant, Sweeny Refinery

The Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will provide, engage, and influence worker health protection and worker well-being for all Phillips 66 business.

 

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Performing pre-employment and regulatory medical examinations, including interpreting labs, EKGs, PFTs, and audiograms
  • Conducting DOT exams
  • Assisting with patient referrals to primary care physicians or specialists, as indicated
  • Appropriately evaluating, treating, and documenting occupational and limited non-occupational health injuries and illnesses
  • Performing return-to-work evaluations, clearances, and fitness for duty examinations
  • Maintaining confidential personnel medical records using an electronic medical record
  • Serving as a resource to employees through health education and assistance with health promotions
  • Assisting with the management of medical absences to ensure timely return to work
  • Promoting employee wellness and fitness
  • Counseling employees regarding safety-sensitive medical issues
  • Promoting working relationships with community health and safety resources
  • Ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulatory requirements as they pertain to medical issues
  • Responding to on-site medical emergencies, as deemed necessary
  • Supervising up to six employees
  • Taking on the leadership role ensures the goals and the vision of Phillips 66 are relayed to the team, employees are recognized when warranted, and positive team morale is established and maintained
  • Partnering with HSE and Business in the delivery and assurance of technical and professional aspects of Occupational Health e.g. medical examination, diagnosis and treatment, medical surveillance and fitness to work evaluations, injury and illness care, disability management travel health, delivery of substance abuse testing and policy compliance, episodic non-occupational injury and illness care, etc.
  • Supporting IT systems, performance monitoring, digitalization opportunities, and innovative technologies
  • Assessing and ensuring compliance with Company and Local and Federal legislative requirements
  • Providing Health and HSE Business Partnering at a skilled level – training, assessment, review, assurance, and technical advice
  • Providing Health and HSE support and advice to Peers, Staff, and Company stakeholders
  • Leveraging on HSE, Environmental, and Occupational Health skills to provide high-value business partnering opportunities to ongoing businesses and projects; Increase reputation and community goodwill
  • Identifying opportunities to add value in the context of social and environmental health to protect and strengthen the license to operate
  • Interacting with internal and external stakeholders in Health, HSE, and Business, Joint Ventures, Contractors, Regulatory Agencies, and Professional Peers
  • Supporting implementation & utilization of standardized health processes
  • Reporting and maintaining protocols of Supervision with assigned providers and providing a standard of care as per State Medical Board regulation

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Master’s degree in nursing (APRN) or in PA studies
  • Advanced practice provider training from an accredited US Program – Physician’s Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (certified APRN OR certified PA-C)
  • Current licensure in the state of practice
  • 1 or more years of adult primary care or urgent care practice
  • Skill level in evaluation, selection, and implementation of progressive levels of digital OH technology including EHR, and its effective use in Health Care Management
  • Ability and experience effectively working in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to lead and or participate in moderate complexity local and regional projects
  • Ability to develop and express ideas and opinions concisely

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of experience in Occupational Health training & certification
  • Strong knowledge and experience with regulations affecting Occupational & Environmental Health and Safety
  • Good verbal & written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • CPR and ACLS training

 

The Sweeny Refinery is located in Old Ocean, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization, and aromatics units, as well as access to the on-site vacuum tower and delayed coking unit, which is an asset owned by Phillips 66 Partners. Sweeny processes heavy, high-sulfur crude oil and some light, low sulfur crude oil. Domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil is transported by truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, heating oil and petroleum coke. The refinery receives crude oil by pipeline and via tankers, through terminals on the Gulf Coast, including a deepwater terminal at Freeport. Refined products are distributed throughout the Midcontinent region, southeastern and eastern United States by pipeline, barge and rail car. Refined products are also exported to Latin America by waterborne cargo.
