As an Environmental Specialist I, you will support safe, compliant, and efficient operations by coordinating field assessments and ensuring adherence to federal and state environmental requirements. This role plays a key part in maintaining environmental performance across water, air, and waste programs while supporting continuous improvement in operational practices.
What You'll Do
• Coordinate and conduct field assessments to ensure operational alignment with federal and state environmental requirements for air compliance Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program.
• Work closely with internal teams to maintain compliance with permits, regulations, and internal processes while supporting data collection, document preparation, and audit assignments.
• Develop sampling plans, oversee sampling activities, maintain records, and prepare reports.
• Support LDAR program oversight across the Wood River Refinery to maintain compliance
• Communicate with regulatory agencies, participate in on-site inspections, coordinate corrective actions, and ensure personnel understand regulatory and permit requirements.
• Provide internal communication support, help refine work processes, and contribute to environmental on-call needs.

• Bachelor’s degree
• Intermediate proficiency with federal and state LDAR regulations
• Intermediate proficiency with environmental sampling, permitting, or environmental monitoring activities
• Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

Compensation Range
This position has a base salary range of $99,900– $122,100.

The Wood River Refinery is located in Roxana, Illinois, about 15 miles northeast of St. Louis, Missouri, at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, low-sulfur; heavy, high sulfur; and high-acid crude oil. The crude supply is sourced domestically or from Canada. Wood River produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, asphalt and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed to customers by pipeline, rail car, barge and truck and are shipped to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
