The Health and Safety Technician is responsible for providing safety, industrial hygiene, and emergency response support to the Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex (RREC). Key roles include providing safety, IH, and ER technical support for operations, maintenance, and technical staff; assisting with IH sampling; conducting ER training; and ensuring compliance with regulations and company requirements.

 

What You'll Do

  • Executing the facility’s annual Exposure Assessment and IH Monitoring Plans
  • Maintaining the IH monitoring database; Using the data to regularly report metrics, trends and recommendations to manage exposures
  • Managing the facility’s respiratory protection and hearing conservation programs; Ensuring compliance with medical clearance, respirator fit testing, and ear plug validation expectations
  • Managing the site's portable gas monitor and personal single gas monitor programs; Regularly auditing compliance with calibrations, bump testing, and reporting expectations
  • Managing the Safety Data Sheet on-line database for the site; Coordinating the chemical review and approval process
  • Providing ergonomic assessments for office and filed personnel
  • Supporting the Health and Safety Team as needed and during turnarounds
  • Supporting the Emergency Response Team as needed, including training and community monitoring
  • Ensuring contractors maintain IH programs that meet regulatory requirements and company expectations
  • Managing and auditing the site's IH programs, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and company safety and health standards and policies

 

What You'll Bring - Required

  • Legally authorized to work in job posting country
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • 1 or more years of experience implementing OSHA health and safety regulatory programs
  • 1 or more years of experience in industrial hygiene programs
  • Basic level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic
  • Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to:
    • Climb stairs and caged ladders on process units, up to 200 feet
    • Work outside in all weather conditions
    • Enter confined spaces
    • To work overtime
    • To maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven), including a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
    • To wear personal protective equipment, including but not limited to steel-toe shoes, ear protection, eye protection, fire retardant clothing

Compensation Range

This position has a base salary range of $101,400 - $123,970.

The Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex is a state-of-the-art facility processing renewable feedstocks (waste oils, fats, greases, and vegetable oils) to produce vital transportation fuels, including renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuels for California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. The Rodeo facility has been providing energy and improving lives since 1896. The conversion from crude oil to renewable feedstocks was completed in early 2024, enabling the production of lower carbon-intensity transportation fuels. The converted facility reduces lifecycle carbon emissions by approximately 65% — the equivalent of taking 1.4 million cars off California roads each year. The Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex is Fueling the Future of the next generation of cutting-edge liquid fuels production and beyond.
