What You’ll Do

  • Lead the planning, design, and implementation of mechanical systems and equipment, applying advanced engineering judgment to solve complex challenges and drive innovation.
  • Manage a portfolio of projects, conduct feasibility studies, and develop engineering standards to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency across pipelines, plants, and field assets.
  • Design solutions, validate processes, and recommend technical developments to improve performance, reduce costs, and support regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide expert guidance, and oversee professional supervision to foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Serve as a technical authority for troubleshooting system and process issues, supporting process safety management, and developing recommendations to mitigate risks.
  • Engage in project scoping, cost estimation, contractor selection, and installation, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within quality standards.
  • Maintain project records, support incident investigations, and advise on regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with stakeholders across operations, EHS, and commercial teams to drive operational excellence and contribute to the ongoing success and safety of the organization.

 

 

What You’ll Bring – Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
  • Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodations, to comply with the following:
    • Travel up to 5%
    • Operate company vehicle on site premises and / or public roads up to 50%
    • Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, and perform occasional duties
    • Transport articles up to 50 pounds
    • Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet
    • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines, around chemicals and hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat, and in harsh weather conditions
    • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment
    • Maintain face daily for proper respirator/face mask seal. (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline
  • 3 or more years of professional engineering experience in Energy or a similar industry
  • 7 or more months of basic supervisory or mentoring experience
  • Proficiency in Process Safety Management (PSM) including:
    • Management of Change (MOC)
    • Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)
    • Pre-Start-Up Safety Review (PSSR)
    • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

 

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred

  • Master’s Degree
  • Knowledge of facility design practices including compression and separation, fluid flow, piping design, foundation design, structural design, instrument, and electrical systems, distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), SCADA design, process control basics, and safety systems
  • Proficient process simulation skills on Promax and VMG/Symmetry or other similar software packages
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations such as DOT 192/195, OSHA 1910.119, and industry standards and practices such as ASTM, API, NACE, ASME, NFPA, DOT, etc  

 

Compensation Range 

This position has a base salary range of $155,700 - $190,300

The Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex is a state-of-the-art facility processing renewable feedstocks (waste oils, fats, greases, and vegetable oils) to produce vital transportation fuels, including renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuels for California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. The Rodeo facility has been providing energy and improving lives since 1896. The conversion from crude oil to renewable feedstocks was completed in early 2024, enabling the production of lower carbon-intensity transportation fuels. The converted facility reduces lifecycle carbon emissions by approximately 65% — the equivalent of taking 1.4 million cars off California roads each year. The Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex is Fueling the Future of the next generation of cutting-edge liquid fuels production and beyond.
