What to Expect

As an Inspector Specialist III, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the reliability and safety of refinery operations. In this position, you’ll be at the forefront of maintaining critical equipment, working alongside skilled professionals in a dynamic environment where attention to detail and technical expertise are valued. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your knowledge of inspection methods and industry standards while contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct thorough inspections and assessments of fixed equipment and piping to ensure operational and safety standards are met.
  • Analyze inspection data, identify trends, and provide actionable recommendations to operations, maintenance, and turnaround teams.
  • Direct non-destructive examination (NDE) crews, review engineering and inspection documentation, and specify remedial work as needed.
  • Support turnaround activities, approve repairs, and maintain detailed records and reports, presenting findings to relevant teams.
  • Interpret fabrication drawings, piping isometrics, and P&IDs, applying knowledge of damage mechanisms, metallurgy, and welding inspection.
  • Collaborate across departments to uphold safety and compliance, provide specialist advice, and optimize inspection processes through advanced data analysis and reporting.
  • Continuously build your capabilities through ongoing training and professional development, contributing to a culture of integrity, clear communication, and continuous improvement.

 

What You’ll Bring – Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
  • Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodations, to comply with the following:
    • Travel up to 5%
    • Operate company vehicle on site premises and / or public roads up to 50%
    • Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, and perform occasional duties.
    • Transport articles up to 50 pounds
    • Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet
    • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines, around chemicals and hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat, and in harsh weather conditions.
    • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment.
    • Maintain face daily for proper respirator/face mask seal. (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 or more years of direct Inspector experience in the Energy industry or similar

 

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred

  • 5 or more years of direct Inspector experience in the oil and gas, chemical, or petrochemical industry
  • Certification(s) in:
    • API 510
    • API 570
    • API 653
  • Associate’s Degree, Trade Certification, Industry Related Training
  • Experience using common inspection software applications (e.g., PCMS, UltraPipe, EMPRV, API-RBI and SAP)
  • Knowledgeable in standard non-destructive examination (NDE) methods
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in visual welding inspection and QA/QC
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in vessel and pipe fabrication
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in pressure vessel inspection
  • Understanding of Damage Mechanisms
  • Willingness to Achieve National Board Certification and California Certificate of Competency
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook Suite (Outlook Email, Word, PowerPoint and Excel programs)

 

Compensation Range:

  • $124,200 - $151,800 

 

 The Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex is a state-of-the-art facility processing renewable feedstocks (waste oils, fats, greases, and vegetable oils) to produce vital transportation fuels, including renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuels for California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. The Rodeo facility has been providing energy and improving lives since 1896. The conversion from crude oil to renewable feedstocks was completed in early 2024, enabling the production of lower carbon-intensity transportation fuels. The converted facility reduces lifecycle carbon emissions by approximately 65% — the equivalent of taking 1.4 million cars off California roads each year. The Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex is Fueling the Future of the next generation of cutting-edge liquid fuels production and beyond.
