The Inside Machinist, Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex works safely and effectively to inspect, adjust, disassemble/reassemble, troubleshoot, and service a wide variety of equipment, including pumps, compressors, fans, conveyors, hydraulic systems, valves and actuators.

 

This position works a 4/10 work schedule.

What You'll Do

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, and a horizontal boring mill
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances
  • Create sketches utilizing old parts, tolerances, and findings sheets
  • Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures
  • Perform DCI, machining, and reassembly of rotating equipment
  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter
  • Dismantle rotating equipment (blowers, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps) using hand tools and power tools to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed
  • Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools
  • Design fixtures, tooling, and parts to meet engineering needs
  • Machine pump shafts, including bearing fit, bearing nut threads, keyway, and bore

 

What You'll Bring - Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
  • Valid driver's license
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3 or more years of direct Machinist experience
  • Currently hold (or willing and able to obtain, if selected) valid Transportation Workers' Identification Credential (TWIC) or qualify for a TWIC card by start date. More information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic
  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:
    • Work overtime, including weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts
    • Respond to after-hours callouts
    • Lift up to 50 pounds
    • Work in confined spaces (e.g., tanks, silos)
    • Work safely around large, high-speed machinery
    • Climb up to 200 feet and work at elevated heights
    • Work in hazardous environments, including exposure to chemicals, acids, and bases
    • Wear fire-resistant clothing (Nomex) and personal protective equipment (PPE), such as steel-toed shoes, gloves, eye/ear protection, and respirators
    • Maintain facial grooming to ensure proper respirator/face mask fit
    • Be on-call and respond to emergencies as needed
    • Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions

 

What Makes You Stand Out - Preferred

  • Completion of an accredited mechanical technology school certificate, degree, or apprenticeship program (e.g., NCCER Level 4 certification)
  • 5 or more years of industrial maintenance experience in troubleshooting, servicing and repairing rotating equipment, conveyors, valves, hydraulic systems and other similar industrial equipment

 

Compensation

The base pay range for this position is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Currently, this range is $37.09/hour to $57.06/hour (fully qualified journeyman) based upon qualifications. This position has a 7.5% Variable Cash Incentive Program target, 8% 401k match, and Cash Balance Account pension. This position works a 4/10 work schedule.

 

The Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex is a state-of-the-art facility processing renewable feedstocks (waste oils, fats, greases, and vegetable oils) to produce vital transportation fuels, including renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuels for California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. The Rodeo facility has been providing energy and improving lives since 1896. The conversion from crude oil to renewable feedstocks was completed in early 2024, enabling the production of lower carbon-intensity transportation fuels. The converted facility reduces lifecycle carbon emissions by approximately 65% — the equivalent of taking 1.4 million cars off California roads each year. The Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex is Fueling the Future of the next generation of cutting-edge liquid fuels production and beyond.
