As a Sr Engineer I, Process Safety, you will play a key role in shaping the safety culture and operational excellence of our site(s). This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by championing process safety initiatives and collaborating with talented professionals across engineering, operations, and health & safety. You will be at the forefront of regulatory compliance and innovation, helping to safeguard our people, our community, and our environment. 

 

What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate the continuous improvement of process safety systems within the refinery, ensuring engineering solutions and operational practices meet regulatory and company standards.
  • Analyze complex information, design and validate engineering solutions, and specify methods, equipment, and standards to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct inspections, manage relationships with contract service providers, and drive process improvements through established change management programs.
  • Deliver small- to medium-scale projects, support knowledge management, and help define and deliver products and services that meet regulatory and business needs.
  • Develop your capabilities through ongoing education, training, and professional development, while maintaining a strong understanding of technology, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Partner closely with operations and technical teams to identify and reduce process safety risks, support Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), and develop recommendations for capital and expense projects.
  • Perform hazard reviews, validate protection layers, and maintain facility siting standards to ensure safe placement of buildings and equipment.
  • Participate in incident investigations, compliance audits, and the implementation of new systems and program elements.
  • Increase process safety awareness across the site, using strong planning, communication, and technical skills to deliver results and foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Support troubleshooting and provide technical guidance to various process area teams, helping to resolve issues and optimize work processes. 

 

What You’ll Bring – Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to comply with the following:
    • Travel up to 5%
    • Operate company vehicle on site premises and/or public roads up to 5-10%
    • Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, and perform occasional duties
    • Transport articles up to 50 pounds
    • Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet
    • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines, around chemicals and hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat, and in harsh weather conditions
    • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment
    • Maintain face daily for proper respirator/face mask seal (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an Engineering discipline
  • 6 or more years of engineering experience in the Energy industry 

 

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred

•    6 or more years of Process Engineering experience in a refinery
•    1 or more years of supervisory experience
•    Certified PHA / LOPA facilitator 
•    Broad knowledge of industry codes, standards, and regulations (e.g. API, PSM, RMP, ASTM, and ASME)
•    Knowledgeable and competent in computerized software/programs such as MS Word, Excel, SAP, PCMS, EDMS, PHA Pro, Sphera, etc.
•    Able to understand and interpret P&ID’s, PFD,s Inspection Drawings, Mechanical Catalogs, miscellaneous forms, and data sheets
•    Compliance with site safety requirements
•    Business-focused and cost conscious
•    Ability to represent Phillips 66 to outside agencies and organizations

 

Compensation Range:

  • $137,700 - 168,300 annual base salary

The Ponca City Refinery is located in Ponca City, Oklahoma, approximately 95 miles northwest of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Its facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, medium and heavy crude oil delivered via pipeline from Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, the U.S. Rockies and Canada. Infrastructure improvements have enabled the delivery of locally produced crude oil by pipeline and truck. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels and anode-grade petroleum coke. Refined products are primarily distributed to customers by company-owned and common carrier pipelines to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
