Pipefitters work in the maintenance department of the refinery. The positions are typically straight day jobs, subject to occasional shift work, turnarounds, call outs and mandatory overtime. Pipefitters are responsible for fabrication, installation, preventive maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of refinery piping, tubing and valves. This work takes place in all areas of the refinery, outside exposed to the weather elements and to blowing air, heat, noise and vibration. The refinery processes involve hazardous and volatile materials under high pressures. The work may take place in heights or vessels and towers and/or in confined spaces.

Responsibilities May Include:
- Installation, removal and repair of piping, tubing, and connection systems
- Repairing flange leaks, including tightening or replacing bolts, flanges and gaskets
- Installing pipe, including flanges, union, joints, gaskets, nozzles, valves, insulation, etc.
- Blinding pipes, vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, and other refinery equipment
- Bend, cut and thread piping and tubing
- Prepare schematic drawings, sketches and reports to reflect activities
- Perform basic rigging - Coordinate work of others as needed
- Operate fork lift, man-lifts and overhead cranes
- Hot tap piping connections, torque inspect flanged pair, and seal plate blinding procedure
Required Qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- At least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to read at a level to understand written safety procedures, work procedures, work permits, and instruction manuals
- Ability to read and understand process and equipment diagrams, vendor manuals and blueprints
- Willingness to perform/comply with the following:
- To lift up to 50 pounds
- To climb up to 250 feet in height
- To regularly walk, stand, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch for durations of up to 30 minutes
- To work overtime, including nights, weekends, and call-outs
- To work outside in harsh weather conditions
- To work in enclosed spaces, such as tanks and silos
- To work near large, hot, high-speed machines
- To work around chemicals, including acids and bases
- To wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
- To maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
- To learn computer software associated with operations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of an apprenticeship, certification, or associate degree program in pipefitting or related studies
- 3 or more years of experience as a journeyman level pipefitter in oil refinery, chemical process, or similar facility
- 5 or more years of experience with steam and condensate pumping systems
- Basic proficiency level with Microsoft Office, and SAP applications
- Ability to clearly communicate, written and oral
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong customer interaction skills with experience in working with customers
*The tentative start date for this position is June 2025. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
**The starting hourly contract rate is $39.15. Future pay increases will be based on the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The Ponca City Refinery is located in Ponca City, Oklahoma, approximately 95 miles northwest of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Its facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, medium and heavy crude oil delivered via pipeline from Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, the U.S. Rockies and Canada. Infrastructure improvements have enabled the delivery of locally produced crude oil by pipeline and truck. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels and anode-grade petroleum coke. Refined products are primarily distributed to customers by company-owned and common carrier pipelines to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
