The Mechanical Engineer provides mechanical engineering support to reliability efforts, maintenance, and area operations. Mechanical engineering resource for reliability driven projects in all areas of the refinery and provides engineering for small to medium sized capital and expense area projects. Owns the development of turnaround scope and becomes an integral interface between reliability, turnaround and area work teams.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Driving safety performance improvement excellence in mechanical integrity and process safety.
- Principal interface between reliability team, area teams and turnaround group on small outages and area projects.
- Reliability engineering resource for identifying fixed and rotating equipment bad actors. Developing criticality and asset management strategies for bad actors.
- Coordinating with the area and turnaround work teams and develop and execute small outage scope and engineering design packages.
- Participating in Process and Physical Hazard Analysis.
- Supporting and driving process and mechanical designs review.
- Supporting Area Optimization and Reliability Engineers assisting with troubleshooting operating, quality and equipment problems.
- Familiar with all P66 Required Standards, REPS and site clarifications.
- Developing cost estimates, equipment specifications, and tracks/monitors construction/maintenance progress, for small area projects.
- Working with Area Team to develop Area project budgets.
- Working with Area Team to develop Turnaround and Unit Outage work scopes and cost estimates.
- Providing technical knowledge around process safety management (MOC, CAF, PHAs, Process Safety procedures, MI program improvement and sustainability).
- Providing technical guidance to ensure fixed equipment maintenance is executed in an effective, timely, and cost-efficient manner.
- Taking appropriate action to expedite fixed equipment and piping repairs and implement contingency plans if required.
- Working with Area to generate and implement ideas/opportunities improving area safety, environmental performance and profitability through maintenance/project development/execution.
- Collaborating and nurturing relationships with peers and work groups. (Areas, Inspection, PSM, Turnarounds and Projects).
- Participating in Area Safety Team.
Required Qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- Current Driver’s license and ability to drive company vehicles in the refinery and on public roads
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical or related engineering discipline
- 1 or more years of experience working in a refinery, petrochemical or similar industrial environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of refinery operations
- Working knowledge of the refinery units and critical equipment and systems in each area
- Working knowledge of rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, and turbines
- Working knowledge of reliability principles and familiarity with software such as Asset Performance Management (APM) and SAP is beneficial
- Knowledge of project management and cost estimating work practices
- Knowledge of project scheduling including use of scheduling software such as Microsoft Project
The Ponca City Refinery is located in Ponca City, Oklahoma, approximately 95 miles northwest of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Its facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, medium and heavy crude oil delivered via pipeline from Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, the U.S. Rockies and Canada. Infrastructure improvements have enabled the delivery of locally produced crude oil by pipeline and truck. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels and anode-grade petroleum coke. Refined products are primarily distributed to customers by company-owned and common carrier pipelines to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
