The Instrument & Electrical Designer working under the supervision of the Design and Construction Lead will be responsible for all aspects of capital project electrical and instrumentation design. Adhering to corporate REPs along with ensuring department work process procedures are followed from concept to construction. This position will also be the point person for all I&E contract designers on site or Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) contractors.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Ensure adherence to corporate REPs and documented work process guidelines
- Apply the design standards and codes that apply to the drawings being created
- Work as part of a design team to put together design packages
- Check other designers work and provide feedback to complete projects
- Teach other design staff members as needed
- Use Ponca City Refinery’s design standards and project procedures to create project drawing packages including the following but not limited to:
- Schematics
- Building layouts, equipment layouts, cable tray routing, conduit routing
- Cable/Conduit schedule
- Installation Details
- Bill of Materials
- Voltage Drop Calculations
- Cable Fill Calculations
- Cable Sizing
Minimum Qualifications:
- Legally Authorized to Work in Job Posting Country
- Driver’s License
- High School Diploma or GED
- 10 or more years of experience working in Microstation / Auto CAD
- 10 or more years of electrical or instrument design
- Working knowledge of National Electrical Code
- Intermediate proficiency of SPI (Smart Plant Instrumentation)
- Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Office
- Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to comply with the following:
- Travel up to 5% of the time
- Occasional on-call duties
- Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
- Work around chemicals and hydrocarbons, including acids and bases
- Work outside in harsh weather conditions
- Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear, and eye protection)
- Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate Degree in Design, Drafting or Engineer Tech
- Lead a team of designers and drafters by organizing and delegating tasks to efficiently complete projects
- Must be able to function with minimal supervision
- Advanced proficiency of SPI (Smart Plant Instrumentation)
- CAD experience (10+ yrs)
- Knowledge of computer software systems (SAP) used for project, tracking, cost controls and reporting
- Able to interact and work with a diverse work group (Mechanical Craftsman, Engineers, Contractors)
- Must be able to play a leading role in a project design team
- Desire to learn is extremely important
The Ponca City Refinery is located in Ponca City, Oklahoma, approximately 95 miles northwest of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Its facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, medium and heavy crude oil delivered via pipeline from Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, the U.S. Rockies and Canada. Infrastructure improvements have enabled the delivery of locally produced crude oil by pipeline and truck. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels and anode-grade petroleum coke. Refined products are primarily distributed to customers by company-owned and common carrier pipelines to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
