The Asset Engineer provides technical support to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of compressor stations, pipelines, plants and field assets in and around Midland, TX. Performs troubleshooting and failure analysis and develops recommendations to improve equipment and performance. Works closely with multiple stakeholders including Operations, EHS, reliability and Commercial.
Responsibilities may include:
- Monitors plant, gathering system, compressor performance, and control systems, proposing changes to reduce upsets, improve reliability and efficiencies, increase production, and reduce costs.
- Serves as technical support for troubleshooting process and operational issues, working with all levels of personnel including operators, mechanics, supervisors, managers, and various specialists.
- Provides and reviews engineering standards and procedures to ensure quality, safety, reliability, timeliness, and performance are consistently met.
- Supports or leads technical and economic evaluations, performance testing, and the design, construction, and upgrading of facilities and equipment, always considering safety and environmental risk management objectives.
- Builds and maintains process simulations for plant and compressor stations to support improvements and decision-making.
- Develops and defines project concepts, scope, technical requirements, and specifications to assure compliance with principles, regulations, and standards.
- Coordinates with clients and stakeholders to plan project execution, resolve technical challenges, and engage in scoping, design, cost estimation, bidding, contractor selection, installation, and management.
- Anticipates business and regulatory challenges, recommending process, product, or service improvements where necessary.
- Provides technical support for Process Safety Management (PSM) and risk reduction initiatives at plant and compressor stations.
- Participates in incident investigations, meetings, training, and commercial support activities, maintaining project records and compliance with contracts and regulations.
- Plans, organizes, and coordinates engineering projects, training, and mentoring lower-level Engineers.
- Provides technical support for process plants, compressor stations, and HP/LP piping systems for the P66 Permian G&P assets to internal stakeholders.
- Performs other related duties as required to meet organizational needs.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering
- Professional engineering experience within the oil and gas sector or chemical manufacturing industry
- Legally authorized to work in job posting country
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Willing and able to perform and comply with the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Travel to field and training locations
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environments, in conditions that may include heat, humidity, or other inclement weather
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
- Lift and transport articles weighing up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally exert pulling force of 130 pounds
- Occasionally climb various ladders
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
- 3 or more years of experience in an Engineering role
- Intermediate proficiency in process simulation on Promax and VMG/Symmetry or other simulation software packages
- Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations such as DOT 192/195, OSHA 1910.119 and industry standards and practices such as ASTM, API, NACE, ASME, NFPA, DOT, etc.
- Working knowledge of facility design practices including compression and separation, pumps and fluid flow, piping design, foundation design, structural design, instrument and electrical systems, distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), SCADA design, process control basics and safety systems
- Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) including Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Pre-Start-up Safety Review (PSSR), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Proven leadership skills and ability to influence at a local level and across a broad organization
- Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Willing and able to perform and comply with the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Climb up to 200 feet in height
- Work in enclosed spaces
Midstream
The Phillips 66 Midstream business is a safe, reliable, and trusted provider for the movement, storage, gathering, and processing of liquid or gas energy via pipelines or terminals. We are an industry leader in logistics and operate or manage more than 70,000 miles of pipelines that transport crude oil from oil fields to refineries and finished products from refineries to storage terminals. We operate 39 terminals that supply finished products to consumer gas stations, as well as crude oil and NGL storage terminals and NGL fractionation facilities. Our capabilities include extensive natural gas gathering and processing operations, enhancing our wellhead-to-market strategy.
