We are now looking for a student to join us for a one-year industrial placement, starting in summer 2025 at our London office. Reporting to the Director, Renewables Trading (Europe), the Renewable Fuels Placement Student will predominantly provide systems support to our sustainability and compliance, origination and operations functions as we continue to grow our low carbon fuels offering. This position is an excellent opportunity to learn the foundations of Physical and Financial commodity markets and use Computing and Data Analysis skills to add real business value in optimizing and improving processes.

Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilities

 Renewable Sustainability Compliance

 

  • Support team with responsibility for ensuring compliance with international environmental laws and regulations affecting renewable fuels, feedstocks, or credits. 
  • Build and improve tools used to track obligations generated through P66 commercial activity under the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) and individual European Member State programs
  • Build and improve tools used to manage sustainability mass balancing and chain of custody documentation

 

Market Risk Position Keeping –

 

  • Support team with responsibility for managing market exposures and reconciling daily MtM VaR and PnL. 
  • Build and improve tools used to track credit inventories
  • Build and improve tools used to track manage desk currency exposure

 

IT

 

  • Support team with responsibility for delivering and implementing new IT solutions to improve desk processes.

What we are looking for in a placement student:

  • The legal right to live and work in the UK on permanent basis without restrictions, or meet the relevant criteria for employer sponsorship.
  • A student who has the option to undertake a placement year as part of their degree, has completed at least their 2nd year of a relevant degree and is on course to achieve a minimum grade of 2:1.
  • Competent IT knowledge and experience using Microsoft applications, VBA and Tableau 
  • A pro-active self-starter, with confidence to utilise initiative.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Someone who is highly motivated with a drive and energy to lead and influence change.
  • A good team player who can work with and influence others with a real flair for problem-solving.
  • Someone who can prioritise effectively and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Financial, economic and statistical analysis experience
  • Computer coding and data modelling experience
  • Excellent analytical & problem-solving skills to support business focused analysis and decisions
  • Ability to function and thrive in a dynamic and demanding work environment
  • Strong desire for personal learning and sharing of skills with others; team player

Phillips 66 has significant marketing operations in Europe. In the UK the business is primarily wholesale, selling fuels to distributors (some of whom are branded JET) and resellers. The fuels are either collected by customers or delivered through a contracted road tanker fleet operating out of a number of UK distribution points. In addition, Phillips 66 Limited supplies a network of approximately 330 independently owned petrol forecourts, all of which are branded JET.

Other markets served are aviation, marine and LPG. JET supplies some of the UK's growing secondary airports using owned and shared refuelling tankers and storage, and delivers to airlines through contracted refuelling operations. Marine markets are served using contracted vehicles, as is the LPG business.
