Basic Function

Trading crude oil within the European Commercial business, focusing on creating value from opportunity / speculative trading and supply optimisation of our Downstream system.

 

Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilities

 

  • Add value to the Downstream refinery system through trading / optimisation.
  • Buy and sell physical cargoes outside of feedstocks business to add third party value.
  • Support growth of global crude trading business to include US crude exports and derivatives portfolio.
  • Create value from logistics and storage plays (where market structure supports it).
  • Complementary derivative trading to add value from market knowledge, when and where appropriate and at discretion of supervisor.
  • Build strong internal relationships with the rest of the Commercial organisation and our key Downstream customers.
  • Build relationships with external trading counterparties in order to understand their requirements, strategies, drivers, business portfolio and market views.

 

Essential Skills

 

  • Legally authorized to work in the UK on a regular, full-time basis without restrictions on local terms and conditions
  • Proven ability to make real-time commercial decisions that have a significant financial impact both independently or as part of the trading team.
  • Experience and understanding of the international crude and products markets.
  • Understanding of risk/hedging tools to manage underlying positions and monetise optionality.
  • Ability to interface effectively with internal and external customers, counterparties, suppliers and consultants.
  • Collaborative team player with ability to work constructively within a very close and often demanding team-working environment, and interact well with other parts of the group.
  • Self-starter with entrepreneurial attitude and desire to grow a business and develop their own role within it.
  • Very strong interpersonal and networking skills.

 

 

Preferred Skills

 

  • Proven ability to add significant value through trading or marketing expertise in the European / Middle Eastern markets, preferably with experience of trading physical and financial products and a proven p/l record.
  • Practical experience of crude or products operations.
  • Previous experience with trading/ refinery/ oil movements operations.
  • Basic crude oil origination skills.
  • Knowledge/ experience of marine issues pertaining to the movement of crude or products.
  • Understanding of the characteristics of products and processes in terms of oil refining, including an appreciation of specifications related to world wide supply and demand economics.
  • Second business relevant language, such as, but not limited to, Russian, Arabic or French desired but not required.

 

 

Additional Information

This role requires some travel (25%) to meet with national oil companies, key counterparties and suppliers, overseas Phillips 66 offices, so willingness to travel is essential.
