The Renewable Fuels Trader will be responsible for managing and trading global renewable fuels opportunities with a particular focus on developing domestic markets. Additionally, the successful candidate will work as part of a renewables team to support company-wide global renewable fuels growth objectives. This will include working as a key participant in the origination and business development of renewables opportunities.  The role interacts extensively with internal stakeholders working closely with Refining, Marketing, VCS&O, other Commercial groups, and management.  Supply to/from the Refining/Marketing system is a critical component as is physical and financial trading and potentially environmental credit trading.  Successful integration and management of new internal systems will be a necessity as will development/direction of new market analysis and creative market development. 


Responsibilities May Include:

  • Generate value (net margin) for P66.
  • Build strong relationships with external trading counterparties.
  • Understand counterparty requirements, strategies, drivers, business portfolio and market views.
  • Identify, pursue, and implement new sourcing and trading opportunities.
  • Work with other Renewables Traders to fully manage the company’s renewable fuels portfolio.
  • Build strong internal relationships within Global Commercial organization and with key internal stakeholders. 
  • Optimize purchase and sale of 3rd-party physical product and potentially complement with derivative trading.
  • Add value to Refining via management of production and to Marketing via management of supply.
  • Acquire and communicate market intelligence to internal parties up to and including executive management.
  • Help develop critical company renewables strategies and tactics to drive company-wide focus.
  • Work closely with Commercial Trading, Commercial Supply, VCS&O, Refining, Marketing, Regulatory, Emerging Energy, Chief Economist, Corporate BD, ERI, Gov’t Affairs, Investor Relations and others.
  • Help ensure regulatory/compliance obligations are met.
  • Support Refining, Marketing, and Emerging Energy strategic initiatives that involve Renewables.
  • Become a recognised expert on renewable fuels key market and trading components for Phillips 66.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in job posting country
  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel 
  • Wiliness to work various hours to manage communication across the globe and with key customers/suppliers
  • Able to travel is 10-20%
  • 1 or more years of experience in oil &/or fuels markets
  • 1 or more years of experience in managing successful relationships with external parties
  • 1 or more years of experience in working effectively with multiple internal stakeholders
  • Working knowledge/understanding of international commodities markets

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience of Biofuels products and their feedstocks and trading 
  • Proven ability to make real-time commercial decisions that have a significant financial impact both independently and as part of the trading team
  • Understanding of risk/hedging tools to manage underlying positions
  • Ability to interface effectively with internal and external customers, suppliers, counterparties 
  • Collaborative team player with ability to work constructively within a very close and often demanding team-working environment, and interact well with other parts of the group
  • Self-starter with strong desire to embrace challenges of growing a business/market while adding value in the short- and long-term
  • Ability to excel in a developing, unstructured market environment
  • Flexible; able to reassess market conditions and adjust market views accordingly
  • Extremely strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Biofuels and the economic value it creates in the Clean Product supply chain
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and regulatory markets
  • Proven ability to add significant value through trading or marketing expertise, preferably with experience of trading physical and financial products
  • Previous experience with marketing/trading/refinery/blending/oil movements operations
  • Knowledge/experience of marine/rail/truck/pipe issues pertaining to the movement of crude or products
  • Understanding of the characteristics of products and processes in terms of oil refining, including an appreciation of specifications, and global supply/demand economics

 

The Commercial organization  works to effectively leverage assets and market knowledge to create additional value within the risk parameters of the Company. We do this by maximizing general interest profitability, enhancing return on capital employed by successfully partnering with the Refining, Transportation and Marketing functions to ensure Value Chain Integration.   Our truck and rail fleets support our feedstock and distribution operations.  Rail movements are provided via a fleet of more than 10,000 owned and leased rail cars. Truck movements are provided through numerous third-party trucking companies, as well as through our 100 percent-owned subsidiary, Sentinel Transportation LLC.
