The Sr. Advanced Process Controls and Automation Engineer III serves as an enterprise subject matter expert, guiding the prioritization and execution of APC application for Phillips 66 Midstream gas processing facilities.
What You’ll Do
- Partner with process engineering and site operations to identify, develop, and execute APC applications.
- Manage day‑to‑day maintenance and benefit sustainment for APC applications at multiple gas processing facilities.
- Hands-on deployment of APC applications.
- Provide consulting services, including training operations on improving their advanced applications and ensuring high utilization.
- Travel to sites as needed to implement and maintain APC applications.
- Support the preparation and issuing of quarterly and annual progress reports, including key performance metrics.
- Maintain, support, and troubleshoot interfaces with base process control systems.
- Provide consulting services to operations and engineering teams on improving operations and reliability.
- Vet software updates from vendors and assist sites with software upgrades.
- Participate in APC and process control peer reviews as needed.
- Engage in the discovery, selection, and implementation of new technologies and practices for Advanced Control and Optimization.
- Perform optimization technology reviews beyond APC.
- Develop plans and roadmap for value chain optimization efforts.
What You’ll Bring – Required
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering
- Valid Driver’s License
- 6 or more years of experience in multivariable process control and optimization
- Working knowledge of Distributed Control Systems
- Willing and able to travel up to 35% of the time
- Willing and able to be on call and occasional work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on business need
What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred
- 15 or more years of APC and automation experience
- Working knowledge of the Natural Gas Cryogenic process
- Master’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering
- Prior experience with leading APC and Optimization software, including Aspen DMC+/DMC3, Honeywell Profit Suite, Aspen GDOT, Schneider Electric ROMEO, and/or similar
- Prior experience with communications interfaces between APC technology and Distributed Control Systems, including Schneider Electric Foxboro, Emerson Delta V, Honeywell Experion, and/or similar
- Prior experience with machine learning tools used for data analytics and process control, including Python, R, and/or similar
Compensation Range
This position has a base salary range of $180,000 - $220,000.

Midstream
The Phillips 66 Midstream business is a safe, reliable, and trusted provider for the movement, storage, gathering, and processing of liquid or gas energy via pipelines or terminals. We are an industry leader in logistics and operate or manage more than 70,000 miles of pipelines that transport crude oil from oil fields to refineries and finished products from refineries to storage terminals. We operate 39 terminals that supply finished products to consumer gas stations, as well as crude oil and NGL storage terminals and NGL fractionation facilities. Our capabilities include extensive natural gas gathering and processing operations, enhancing our wellhead-to-market strategy. We also provide the connectivity between the various Phillips 66 business units.
