The Senior Cost Specialist II, Project Controls supports capital projects within the Projects organization. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining project cost controls, supporting forecasting and accrual processes, monitoring commitments and actuals, coordinating with project management and contractors, and providing timely, forward-looking reporting that supports sound business decisions.
The ideal candidate brings a strong project controls background with advanced SAP capability, practical EcoSys experience, strong Power BI reporting and analytics skills, and working knowledge of Primavera P6. This individual should be comfortable operating across engineering, procurement, and construction interfaces while helping maintain alignment between cost, schedule, change management, and reporting processes.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare and maintain monthly cost reports, forecasts at completion, trend analysis, accruals, cash flow views, and variance analysis.
- Monitor budgets, commitments, invoices, purchase orders, actual costs, and change activity to ensure accurate cost visibility and control.
- Support creation and maintenance of project structures in SAP and EcoSys and ensure alignment to approved WBS, cost coding, and reporting requirements.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Project Controls Leads, schedulers, procurement, accounting, and contractors to integrate cost and schedule information and improve forecast accuracy.
- Identify, evaluate, and communicate cost trends, risks, and change impacts early so the team can take timely corrective action.
- Support risk management, contingency planning, and management of change processes during project planning and execution.
- Validate contractor and vendor cost data, review invoice coding and allocations, and help resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Partner with planning and scheduling personnel to understand progress, earned value, schedule impacts, and forecast implications.
- Prepare clear reports, analyses, and presentations for project leadership and management review.
- Develop, maintain, and improve project cost control systems, procedures, and reporting processes for assigned capital projects or portfolios.
What You’ll Bring - Required
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- High School Diploma or GED
- 5 or more years of experience in project controls, cost control, cost engineering, or capital project financial management
- Experience with cost forecasting, accruals, commitments, variance analysis, change management, and reporting
- Intermediate or greater proficiency in SAP, including tracking actual costs, purchase orders, commitments, accruals, and invoices
- Intermediate or greater proficiency with EcoSys or another similar project controls platform
- Willing and able to travel up to 5% of the time
What Makes You Stand Out - Preferred
- 10 or more years of experience in project controls, cost control, cost engineering, or capital project financial management
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or another related field
- Working knowledge of Primavera P6 and how schedule data interfaces with project controls and forecasting
- Strong Power BI skills for dashboard development, reporting, data analysis, and management-level visualization
- Experience in oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, or other large industrial capital project environments
- Experience supporting large projects or multiple small projects in parallel
- Experience interfacing with EPC contractors and construction teams
- Familiarity with earned value, progress measurement, benchmarking, and management review reporting
- Experience preparing management-level presentations and project performance summaries
- Professional certification such as AACE, CCP, or PMP
Compensation Range
This position has a base salary range of $160,200 - $195,800.
