The Product Marketing Manager (PMM) is responsible for the profit delivery (P&L) of the existing product portfolio within the Phillips 66 chemicals business. This role is accountable for achieving the best possible product price in the market, served at the lowest possible costs.
The role requires frequent interaction with various internal groups, including Sales, Procurement, VCO, Transportation, R&D, Business Services, Refining and Transportation, as well as external groups, including customers, distributors, agents and market/business analysts. The PMM is typically focused on the existing product portfolio, ensuring they meet market needs, and driving product adoption in the marketplace through effective communication to potential buyers.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Product Portfolio Management: Overseeing the Chemicals product portfolio to ensure it aligns with the Chemicals Business’ strategic objectives. This includes evaluating the performance of the existing products, identify opportunities for new products, and making decisions about which product to develop, maintain or discontinue.
- Pricing Management: Setting the floor and target price per product and customer segment based on a solid understanding of the product performance of the peer group, a thorough understanding of the product costs delivered to the customer and a well-articulated product value proposition.
- Performance Tracking: Monitoring and analyzing the achieved pricing and margin of the products sold by the Chemicals Business relative to the strategic objectives and to the market, take corrective actions or adjust strategies as needed.
- Market Research: Conducting thorough market research to understand customer needs, market trends and the competitive landscape.
- Customer Feedback: Gathering and analyzing customer feedback to inform product improvements and marketing strategies.
- Product Positioning: Defining and communicating the unique value proposition of the product to the target audience.
- Marketing Strategy: Developing and executing marketing strategies and campaigns to promote the product.
- Content Creation: Collaborating with content creators to produce marketing materials such as brochures, videos, and social media posts.
- Product Launches: Planning and managing product launches, including coordinating with sales, PR, and other departments.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all products, marketing materials and strategies comply with industry regulations and standards.
- Collaboration: PMMs work closely with product development, sales, and customer support teams to ensure a cohesive approach to product marketing.
- Adaptability: The role requires staying updated with the latest marketing trends and technologies to effectively reach and engage the target audience
Required Qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- 5 or more years of prior commercial or related experience in preferably Petrochemical (fuels, solvents, polymers/plastics, chemicals) or Oil & Gas products
- 2 or more years of experience in a role equivalent field (sales, marketing and/or product management)
- 1 or more years of direct experience working with Influence Management, including conflict resolution and the ability to lead both internal/external resources to achieve goals
- Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to travel up to 30% of the time, nationally and internationally
- Advanced proficiency in gathering and interpreting data from multiple sources, developing economics, and drawing sound conclusions that drive business results
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with advanced data analytics tools (Tableau, CDL, Business Objects, etc.)
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Science or Math
- Knowledge of petrochemical industry, its markets and the various applications for petrochemicals use
- Good overall understanding of Sales, Marketing, Pricing, Transportation and/or Commercial operations
- Demonstrate measurable results while working independently, with minimal supervision and direction
- Critical and strategic thinking skills to enable the identification or creation of new opportunities and to challenge status quos
- Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions
- Results oriented with focus on continuous improvement
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills using formulas, lookups, arrays, graphs, macros and pivot tables for data manipulation
- Self-directed with strong organizational and project management skills
- Experience in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing, to ensure common understanding
- Previous experience as a team-oriented contributor who can effectively elevate the performance of teammates through positive interaction and informal leadership
