As the Power Trading Lead this role sits at the center of the company’s commercial strategy, providing senior leadership across power trading activities in North America. You’ll bring deep market perspective, strong commercial judgment, and a collaborative mindset to a fast-paced, high-impact environment, with the opportunity to shape how the organization competes, grows, and creates value across evolving power markets.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the development and day-to-day operation of a North America power trading portfolio, translating market insight into disciplined trading and origination strategies that create sustainable value.
  • Direct trading activity across spot and term physical markets and financial instruments, managing portfolio risk and ensuring alignment to an established portfolio strategy.
  • Provide forward price forecasts and guide supply planning, shaping clear market views that support sound commercial decisions.
  • Contribute to broader trading strategy by identifying long-term opportunities and helping the business respond to evolving market dynamics.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing trading team, setting clear expectations, coaching talent, and holding the group accountable for results.
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders and external counterparties to structure transactions, negotiate commercial terms, and strengthen value-chain relationships.
  • Ensure all trading activities operate within robust risk, compliance, and governance frameworks, working proactively with Legal, Credit, and Compliance.
  • Support the evaluation and adoption of tools, systems, and processes that enable smarter decision-making, scalable operations, and consistent performance.

 

What You’ll Bring – Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in business, economics, engineering, finance, or a related field
  • 15 or more years of progressive responsibility across power markets and related commercial activities and extensive experience in energy or commodity trading
  • 10 or more years of people leadership experience, including building, leading, and environments
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

 

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred

  • Experience establishing, growing, or transforming a power trading desk or commercial platform
  • Deep knowledge of North American physical and financial power markets, with exposure to adjacent commodities such as natural gas
  • Demonstrated track record of creating value through trading, origination, or structured commercial transactions
  • Experience navigating regulatory, compliance, and governance requirements in energy markets
  • Comfort evaluating and implementing trading systems, analytics, or technology solutions to support scalable operations
  • Proven ability to manage large, integrated trading portfolios, balancing commercial opportunity with disciplined risk management
  • Strong commercial judgment and financial acumen, with the ability to translate market dynamics into clear strategies and business outcomes
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with experience partnering across functions and influencing senior stakeholders

 

Compensation Range 

This position has a base salary range of $257,400 - $314,600.

Where a candidate offer falls within the posted range depends on the candidate's experience, skills, and alignment with the role’s requirements. The Commercial organization works to effectively leverage assets and market knowledge to create additional value within the risk parameters of the Company. We do this by maximizing general interest profitability, enhancing return on capital employed by successfully partnering with the Refining, Transportation and Marketing functions to ensure Value Chain Integration.   Our truck and rail fleets support our feedstock and distribution operations.  Rail movements are provided via a fleet of more than 10,000 owned and leased rail cars. Truck movements are provided through numerous third-party trucking companies, as well as through our 100 percent-owned subsidiary, Sentinel Transportation LLC.
