Natural Gas Trader

The Natural Gas Trader will join a growing natural gas desk within the commercial business at Phillips 66.  Reporting to the Global Trading Lead, Natural Gas and Power, this role will establish and execute trading strategies, generating income through physical and financial natural gas trading.  

 

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Trade and market physical gas production from DCP Midstream’s natural gas processing plants.
  • Execute and manage a trading portfolio of gas products, including fixed price/spread trades, basis trades, physical/financial index trades, and options.
  • Generating forward curve and price forecasts and actively monitoring position exposure and P&L.
  • Communicate and coordinate with origination on expanding Phillips 66’s natural gas physical business.
  • Coordinating internally with Risk, Accounting, IT, and Finance to ensure all trade activity is accurately captured and reported.
  • Adhering to and ensuring compliance with all internal controls/corporate policies and external rules and regulations.
  • Collaborating with traders and market analysts across various commodities to evaluate fundamentals and trade ideas.
  • Providing market point of view and explanation of positions to Commercial leadership and other members of Senior Management.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorization to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 or more years of experience in a commercial/trading environment within the energy industry 
  • Extensive working knowledge of market fundamentals, risk controls, and operations

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or related field
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of various physical natural gas markets, including West Coast, Rockies, Canada,  Midcon, West Texas, and Gulf Coast areas
  • 7 or more years of experience trading gas products
  • Deep understanding of market area fundamentals
  • Working knowledge and understanding of financial basis and options modeling
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively across a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Commercially driven and demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
