We are seeking an experienced Product Control Manager to oversee the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of trading PnL and risk reporting across our global commercial portfolio, using globally consistent tools and processes. This role ensures robust control frameworks are in place to support front-office activities, manage exposure to market risks, and comply with internal and external regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in commodity trading, risk management, and financial control, as well as experience in managing a dynamic team in a large and diverse commodity trading organization.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Lead daily validation and reporting of trading P&L and risk metrics across global commodity trading books.
- Ensure accurate valuation of physical and derivative positions, including mark-to-market and fair value adjustments.
- Analyze and explain P&L drivers, including market movements, trading strategies, and operational impacts.
- Develop and maintain robust product control processes, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Coordinate with internal audit and compliance teams to address control gaps and findings.
- Act as a key liaison between the front office, risk, finance, operations, and IT teams.
- Provide strategic insights and risk commentary to senior management and trading leadership.
- Support new product initiatives and system implementations from a control and risk perspective.
- Manage and mentor a global team of product control leads and risk analysts.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in product control, risk management, or finance within a commodity trading environment
- Strong knowledge of energy markets, physical and financial trading instruments, and risk metrics (VaR, Greeks, stress testing)
- Proficiency in trading and risk systems (e.g., SAP, RightAngle, Endur, Allegro, or similar)
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
- Experience working in a global, fast-paced, and matrixed organization
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with digital transformation, automation, or data analytics in risk/product control functions
- Strong trading-facing communicator, aligning risk insights with commercial strategies and decision-making
The Commercial organization works to effectively leverage assets and market knowledge to create additional value within the risk parameters of the Company. We do this by maximizing general interest profitability, enhancing return on capital employed by successfully partnering with the Refining, Transportation and Marketing functions to ensure Value Chain Integration. Our truck and rail fleets support our feedstock and distribution operations. Rail movements are provided via a fleet of more than 10,000 owned and leased rail cars. Truck movements are provided through numerous third-party trucking companies, as well as through our 100 percent-owned subsidiary, Sentinel Transportation LLC.
