Reporting to Manager, Heavy Oils Trading, the Heavy Oils Trader will be dedicated to trading fuel oil & feedstocks. This role will involve identifying and capturing fuel oil and feedstock trading opportunities to generate profits both regionally and globally as part of the Global Commercial team while ensuring adherence to Phillips 66 core values and visions to position the business as a high-performing unit.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Contribute to the Heavy Oils Trading team in realizing annual profit objectives.
- Collaborate internally to optimize heavy intermediate feedstock purchases/sales for the Phillips 66 refineries.
- Proactively identify and develop trading strategies to capture value from fuel oil & feedstock markets.
- Cultivate & enhance targeted counter-party relationships to expand Phillips 66 market presence and increase trading potential.
- Negotiate with counter-party traders to successfully conclude fuel oil & feedstock transactions.
- Work with traders from Phillips 66 trading offices across the globe as part of the global trading teams.
- Accurately enter fuel oil & feedstock deals into our deal capture system.
- Work with mid and back-office support teams to ensure accurate reporting of positions.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of Phillips 66 global fuel oil trading activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher
- 5+ years of energy industry experience, including at least 3+ years of heavy oils trading experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience trading heavy oils in North & South America, including high sulphur cracked & straight-run fuel oil
- Entrepreneurial skills. Ability to optimize company assets as well as capture value through speculative trading activities
- Knowledge of global fuel oil and feedstock trade flows and understanding of arbitrage economics
- Understanding of pricing and volume exposures and tools/strategies for managing risks
- In-depth understanding of fuel oil blending economics
- Knowledge of heavy oil cargo operations and marine markets
- Knowledge of regional heavy oil logistics and terminals
- Strong negotiating skills
- Advanced computer spreadsheet skills
- Results-oriented with the ability to think and act decisively and independently under changing circumstances
- Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and communicative (speaking and writing) skills and often with persons of another business culture
The Commercial organization works to effectively leverage assets and market knowledge to create additional value within the risk parameters of the Company. We do this by maximizing general interest profitability, enhancing return on capital employed by successfully partnering with the Refining, Transportation and Marketing functions to ensure Value Chain Integration. Our truck and rail fleets support our feedstock and distribution operations. Rail movements are provided via a fleet of more than 10,000 owned and leased rail cars. Truck movements are provided through numerous third-party trucking companies, as well as through our 100 percent-owned subsidiary, Sentinel Transportation LLC.
