The Senior Counsel, commercial works closely with senior leaders and internal clients, serving as a trusted advisor and business partner. Th work will invovle high-stakes inssues where precedents may not exist, requiring creative legal strategies and immediate, experience-based judgement.

 

What You'll Do (When Postion Opens)

  • Provide authoritative legal advice on complex or ambiguous matters, interpreting and applying company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Draft, review, and edit a wide range of legal documents, tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Manage relationships with internal clients, acting as a strategic business partner and deploying resources to support business objectives.
  • Instruct and manage outside counsel and specialists.
  • Recommend and implement changes to policies, processes, and standards to improve operational support and ensure compliance.
  • Monitor, interpret, and apply laws, regulations, and industry best practices, maintaining up-to-date expertise through continuous professional development.
  • Lead or contribute to major and unique legal assignments of significant importance.
  • Integrate diverse information sources and maintain deep knowledge of industry trends to develop strategies for ambiguous and novel legal issues.
  • Develop and deliver clear, compelling communications and presentations to various stakeholders.
  • Build and sustain high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust across the organization.

 

What You'll Bring – (Required Qualifications)

  • Legally authorized to work in job posting country
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Member in good standing of any US bar
  • 6+ years of experience in energy law or as in-house counsel at a large energy company supporting the Commercial legal organization.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with internal business clients, support staff, and with external resources such as outside counsel and other collaborators.
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply company policies, procedures, operations, and industry practices.
  • Strong individual initiative, discipline and commitment to superior performance and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate complex concepts clearly to varied audiences, support quality assurance efforts, and contribute to continuous improvement across legal and business processes.

Compensation Range:

This position has a base salary range of $204,600 - $291,500.
