The Environmental Specialist focuses on the overall compliance and leadership of the various Environmental Networks. The role provides Environmental program compliance guidance, drives work practice standardization, continuous improvement, as well as regulatory advice and interpretation for environmental programs. Regulatory oversight could include CAA, CWA, RCRA, NSR/PSD permitting, Title V, NSPS, MACT, RSR, TRI, EMIS, etc. This position supports Environmental regulatory issues for all Business Units including Refining, Midstream and Lubricants.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Lead and/or Participate in Environmental Networks (LDAR, BWON, TRI, Fenceline, etc.)
- Develop and track Environmental program metrics to improve performance (e.g., assist sites with mitigating compliance deviations)
- Provide Environmental regulatory program guidance
- Lead programs to drive continuous improvement and reduction of Compliance Deviations and Environmental Events
- Drive Work Practice Standardization and implementation of best practices
- Review BU Environmental Programs as requested
- Lead/Participate LDAR Consent Decree Audits for Refining and Midstream
- Manage Company Procedures (e.g., Release Reporting Requirements, Project Review Checklist, CPMS/CEMS guidance documents, BWON Certification requirements, etc.)
- Participate in the Air/Water Peer Review Process as needed
- Support Business Transformation Initiatives
- Support Project Reviews and Permitting as needed
- Assist sites during regulatory inspections as requested
- Participate in Issue Management Process and Regulatory Impact Analysis
- Training/Mentoring of BU staff
- Participate in Regulatory Outreach
- Support Corporate Audits as requested
- Support Due Diligence process for acquisitions/divestures as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience in environmental management and resolving technical issues
- Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to comply with the following:
- Travel up to 10% of the time
- Conduct field testing
- Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
- Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height
- Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
- Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat
- Work outside in harsh weather conditions
- Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
- Maintain face on occasion so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
- 2 or more years of experience in petrochemical industry
- Demonstrated expertise in Environmental related regulatory requirements
- Registered Professional Engineer
