Phillips 66 is seeking a Director, Enterprise Data Platform to lead the strategy, governance, and delivery of our enterprise data platform. This leader will own the platform roadmap and technology decisions, drive data engineering standards, establish and enforce data governance, and build out our enterprise data fabric (ingestion, organization, cataloging, lineage, and data product enablement) to power critical analytics and AI use cases at scale, as well as critical business transactional systems. The role partners closely with AI Platform, Data Science, Enterprise Architecture, Security/Privacy, Cloud Engineering, and line-of-business IT to deliver a resilient, secure, and highly usable data platform. This position reports directly to the VP, Digital Strategy & Innovation.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the development and execution of enterprise-wide technology innovation strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and measurable outcomes.
- Own the strategic roadmap for the enterprise data platform, guiding capability growth, investment proposals, and delivery of user-centered capabilities.
- Partner with AI, Data Science, Security, Cloud Engineering, and business teams to deliver a resilient, secure, and highly usable data platform that powers analytics, AI, and business systems.
- Make architecture and technology decisions, including reference architectures, build/buy evaluations, vendor selection, and patterns for data ingestion (batch/streaming/CDC), transformation (ETL/ELT), modeling, and serving.
- Define and implement governance policies, oversee platform operations, and ensure integration with application and analytics strategies.
- Foster a product mindset by driving stakeholder engagement, prioritizing initiatives, and communicating progress effectively.
- Manage the innovation pipeline, including resource allocation, budgeting, and the development and delivery of intellectual property that supports business objectives.
- Build organizational capability by coaching and mentoring talent, and develop annual business plans that support strategic objectives.
- Represent the company in industry forums and professional events, promoting the organization’s brand and efforts.
- Cultivate a culture of innovation, accountability, and engagement, ensuring results that make a measurable impact on the organization’s success.
What You’ll Bring – Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of broad and deep experience in technology innovation, data engineering, analytics platforms, or data architecture, including at least 6 years in a leadership role managing resources and teams.
- 5+ years leading enterprise-scale data platforms, fabric/mesh, or data governance programs.
- Advanced expertise in data ingestion (batch/stream/CDC), orchestration, ELT/ETL, data modeling, and serving patterns; familiarity with event/stream platforms and metadata-driven pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud (Azure, AWS, or GCP), containerization, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD practices applied to data platforms.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the job posting country.
What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred
- Experience in the energy sector or supporting energy trading environments.
- Hands-on knowledge of master data management (MDM), data virtualization, semantic layers, and knowledge graph platforms.
- Familiarity with modern data and governance tools, such as orchestration, catalog/lineage, lakehouse/warehouse, and streaming technologies.
- Relevant certifications in cloud platforms, data engineering, data governance, or security.
- Track record of representing organizations in industry forums, professional events, or thought leadership activities.
- Demonstrated ability to drive innovation, manage ambiguity, and deliver results in complex environments.
- Proven ability to develop and execute strategies that align with organizational goals and drive measurable outcomes.
- Demonstrated success in leading large-scale, enterprise-wide technology innovation initiatives and delivering modern cloud-based data platforms.
- Strong expertise in data governance, data quality frameworks, policy development, and compliance.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and team leadership skills.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and develop talent within the organization.
- Strong business acumen and financial management skills, including budgeting and resource allocation.
Compensation Range
This position has a base salary range of $214,200 – $261,800.
