Engineer II - Hydraulic Modeling, Midstream

The Hydraulic Modeling Engineer supports the Midstream Organization in the management of gas gathering and processing systems using the resources of the Hydraulic Modeling & Optimization Engineering team.  This team uses hydraulic knowledge and tools to address system changes, improve operating efficiency, identify opportunities for growth & optimization, mitigate risk, and address business questions. 

 

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Applying expertise in pipeline hydraulics, compressor operations, processing plants and regulatory restrictions to build and develop hydraulic models
  • Developing and tuning single and multi-phase steady-state and transient hydraulic models for pipeline systems using standard simulation software packages to evaluate operating parameters, system design and system capacity
  • Developing model scenarios to address business questions, support growth initiatives, and provide results useful for economic analysis
  • Leading a team or participating as a team member to evaluate, develop, and implement pipeline optimization and operational strategies for the organization.
  • Build and analyze gas well forecast for existing and new well production to analyze the system constraints and infrastructure requirements
  • Evaluate projects for system optimization and develop project justification for equipment changes and replacement
  • Developing and implementing tools for Field Operations, Scheduling, and Control Center operations to minimize operating costs and improve overall asset optimization 
  • Propose, sponsor, lead and provide expert input for system optimization, such as operational improvements, engine replacements, VFD installations, and compressor and pump modifications
  • Providing guidance to Midstream team members and 3rd party engineering firms regarding model configuration and operating scenarios, including mentoring and training in hydraulic modeling and simulation
  • Provide status update communication and follow-up with customers regarding modeling and optimization requests to agree on realistic timelines, prioritization, resource allocation, and team deliverables
  • Knowledge share with team members in hydraulic understanding, modeling, gas gathering pipeline operations, and results analyses skills
  • Leverage relationships with industry peers and vendors through leading or participating in industry interest groups to remain up to date on regulation, technology, and software/tool options in the energy management and hydraulic modeling subject matter areas

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • B.S. Engineering degree (Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Petroleum or related field)
  • 5 or more years of experience in the natural gas gathering and processing industry
  • Advanced knowledge of gas gathering systems, processing plants and compressor stations 
  • Basic knowledge of pipeline hydraulic modeling, simulation/optimization concepts
  • Basic knowledge in the use of hydraulic modeling software packages such as Synergi Gas NextGen, SPS etc.
  • Advanced or greater proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Basic knowledge of rotating equipment (pumps/motors/engines) and efficiency optimization 
  • Ability to 10% travel including overnight

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of experience in pipeline hydraulics modeling teams
  • Field engineering, operations experience in gas gathering systems, processing plants and compressor stations
  • Advanced or greater proficiency in NextGen, Synergi Gas, SPS, Promax etc. 

 

Midstream

The Phillips 66 Midstream business is a safe, reliable, and trusted provider for the movement, storage, gathering, and processing of liquid or gas energy via pipelines or terminals. We are an industry leader in logistics and operate or manage more than 70,000 miles of pipelines that transport crude oil from oil fields to refineries and finished products from refineries to storage terminals. We operate 39 terminals that supply finished products to consumer gas stations, as well as crude oil and NGL storage terminals and NGL fractionation facilities. Our capabilities include extensive natural gas gathering and processing operations, enhancing our wellhead-to-market strategy. We also provide the connectivity between the various Phillips 66 business units.
