The purpose of this position is to support optimization of refinery product mix and maximize full value chain earnings by determining breakeven product values and recommending decisions for the Value Chain Optimization (VCO) and Commercial organization. The LP Modeler will be accountable for providing (i) technical knowledge of refinery economic drivers, constraints and operations to the VCO and Commercial organization and (ii) market knowledge to Refining. The role will also help drive company business transformation initiatives through special projects. The role will have a focus on products and intermediates across the Gulf and East Coast Refineries.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Developing and publishing the weekly breakeven reports for Refineries consistent with the Company guidelines
- Ensuring LP models are aligned with refinery capability and reflect the operational constraints
- Performing ad hoc evaluations for VCO Optimization Directors and Commercial Traders
- Performing LP analyses of new opportunities
- Lead weekly touchpoints with Refineries and Commercial Traders to review values across opportunities
- Evaluating opportunities to re-optimize feedstock purchases or product mix as market conditions allow
- Developing and maintaining a strong working relationship with Refining, Commercial and VCO
- Providing regional competitor market intelligence. This may include using additional tools HCOMETS and PRISM
Required Qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Direct refining experience in the fields of refinery economics, operations, process engineering or fuels blending/scheduling
- Direct experience working with LP modeling
- Experience with AspenTech PIMS Program
- Strong understanding of downstream value chain business drivers
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PIMS
- Strong analytical/data management and communication skills
- Must be able to quickly develop and maintain internal and external respect and trust
- Periodic travel is required to visit regional sites
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering
- 3 or more years of experience in Refinery Planning and Economics
- 5 or more years of experience with AspenTech PIMS
- Skills and proficiency with HCAMS/HCOMET, PI Vision/PI AF
- Visual Basic programming experience (advanced beginner-competent level)
The Commercial organization works to effectively leverage assets and market knowledge to create additional value within the risk parameters of the Company. We do this by maximizing general interest profitability, enhancing return on capital employed by successfully partnering with the Refining, Transportation and Marketing functions to ensure Value Chain Integration. Our truck and rail fleets support our feedstock and distribution operations. Rail movements are provided via a fleet of more than 10,000 owned and leased rail cars. Truck movements are provided through numerous third-party trucking companies, as well as through our 100 percent-owned subsidiary, Sentinel Transportation LLC.
