The Strategy Director works closely with a wide range of Phillips 66 leadership, including business unit management and senior executives, to execute the annual strategy process. The position reports through the Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Development and directly to the Managing Director, Corporate Strategy. The role leads and assists with strategic planning, including capital allocation and evaluating investment opportunities. The position will lead strategic evaluations and analysis of financial data, industry trends, and competitive landscapes to assess the viability and strategic fit of potential opportunities. The Director will also be responsible for providing guidance and developing comprehensive business cases, financial models, and projections to guide strategic planning.
Further, this analytical role will monitor portfolio performance and maintain competitive assessments, providing timely analysis of key industry trends, business drivers and other factors that impact Phillips 66 - drawing conclusions and communicating findings throughout all levels of management. Further, this assignment is an excellent developmental position that provides a broad understanding of all business areas within Phillips 66, the key market and competitive drivers, and broad exposure to senior leadership.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Provide detailed market and competitor analysis and timely reporting to ensure key leaders are kept apprised of marketplace activities, trends, opportunities and threats
- Develop economic models and provide detailed analysis to identify and assess strategic portfolio options
- Monitor U.S. and Global refining, NGL, and chemical markets (supply, demand, pricing, industry structure)
- Model capital structure and corporate finance options (dividends, share buybacks, capital expenditures, debt)
- Assess industry impacts of government policy
- Develop effective review packages to communicate findings and recommendations
- Able to present findings in a credible, confident and concise manner to a variety of audiences
- Provide business outlook presentations to internal groups and senior leadership team(s)
- Maintain confidentiality of business activities
Required Qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Bachelor's degree
- 7 or more years working in the Oil and Gas, Manufacturing, Banking, Management Consulting, or Industrial industries
- 3 or more years of experience demonstrating analytical skills with strong quantitative, statistical and analytical thinking
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Intermediate proficiency in accounting and finance concepts
- Intermediate proficiency of corporate valuation methodologies, including financial modeling of project returns, and how companies are valued
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA or Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, or Engineering
- Experience with Bloomberg, FactSet
- Previous strategy or corporate development background
- Sound business knowledge/judgment
- Good business and economic sense; ability to ensure accuracy in data and information provided
- Strong team participation capabilities
- Strong influence
- Strong oral, written, and presentation skills
- Able to work in fast-paced setting; multi-task and advance several projects at a time - often in ambiguous and fast changing environment
- Able to develop communication packages in presentation and written form; can present sophisticated analysis in a credible, confident and concise manner to a variety of audiences
- Strong critical thinking skills for framing and analyzing complex problems to discover salient insights
- Can define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid concise conclusions
