Director, Origination Power

The Director – Origination Power is responsible for supporting the implementation of new commercial activities by identifying, structuring, and closing diverse and complex short and long-term power transactions, and supporting business development activities in the US and throughout the Americas. This position requires a detailed understanding of the power markets including but not limited to generation, transmission, ISOs, and end user loads. This role will interact externally with counterparties and prioritizes areas of new business and opportunity generation for our incumbency position while creating value and contributing to profitability of Americas Power Trading and P66.  

 

Responsibilities May Include

  • Lead origination, structuring and execution processes for power transactions while working closely with Trading to secure optimal value and capitalize on arbitrage opportunities. Transactions include, but are not limited to, the purchase/sale of energy, capacity, transmission, and services.
  • Recognize power and cross-commodities opportunities to further optimize the value associated with the P66 asset backed trading model.
  • Negotiate complex contracts with senior external stakeholders while helping to balance the power desk’s exposure in the Americas.
  • Leverage existing network and build strategic new relationships with key customers to create robust new portfolio while generating P&L with onboarded counterparties, including IPPs, Renewable energy producers, utilities, REPs, and industrial & commercial customers.
  • Perform economic and strategic evaluations for new business opportunities while liaising with multiple internal stakeholders to gather the required approvals to close deals and grow the portfolio of power customers in the region.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, standards governing business operations, employment practices, markets changing regulations, and applicable laws.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to enhance visibility, reputation, and brand awareness.
  • Drive a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement, fostering collaboration, accountability, and a results-oriented mindset across the organization.   

 

Required Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, Economics or a related field
  • 5 or more years of experience in power origination, structuring and execution activities in a trading firm, major oil and gas company or financial institution active in the energy sector 
  • Strong understanding of the power market dynamics and business environment in the US and Americas
  • Track record of success in driving business growth, market expansion, and revenue generation
  • Excellent strategic planning and execution skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities as well as strong presentation skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Adaptability and resilience in navigating complex business environments and challenges

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA preferred
  • 10 years of experience in power origination/commercial activities in the energy sector
  • Up to 50% travel on an as needed basis
  • Experience in trading, marketing, operations and risk management in the power sector in the Americas
  • Knowledge of the US electricity market with focus on regional transmission organizations, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, etc.
  • Structured trade finance experience in the energy sector
  • Experience in negotiating contracts and agreements, with an understanding of the economic implications involved
  • Highly motivated, results-oriented, independent worker with demonstrated integrity toward a team first mentality
  • Ability to interpret and analyze complex data and make strategic recommendations to senior management
  • Strong desire to improve results and drive significant contribution

 

The Commercial organization  works to effectively leverage assets and market knowledge to create additional value within the risk parameters of the Company. We do this by maximizing general interest profitability, enhancing return on capital employed by successfully partnering with the Refining, Transportation and Marketing functions to ensure Value Chain Integration.
