The Counsel, Natural Gas Trading will report to the Managing Counsel, Commercial & Marketing, and work with colleagues in a large law department in a publicly traded, Fortune 50 international energy company.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Advising the Commercial natural gas trading desk on all aspects of natural gas trading, storage, and transportation.
- Reviewing and advising on standard form gas trading agreements, including NAESBs.
- Advising the Commercial credit team on corporate guarantees.
- Opportunities to advise on a wide range of Commercial trading issues.
- Instructing and managing outside counsel and specialists, where appropriate.
- Advising on and handling disputes.
Required Qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- JD degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association
- A member in good standing of any US bar
- 4 or more years of experience in energy law at a top law firm or as in-house counsel at an energy company of similar size and scale
- Experience advising on natural gas trading
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of common contractual terms in the trading of energy commodities
- Experience advising on parent company guarantees
- Experience advising on confidentiality agreements
- Familiarity with the energy industry
- Strong negotiation, advocacy, and presentation skills
- Mature judgment and discretion
- Ability to manage and prioritize assignments that may be broad in scope and complexity, and which involve collaborative work with employees in different departments or with varying levels of seniority
- Self-initiation on complex assignments
- Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with clients, legal colleagues, and external counsel
- Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and function independently without significant supervision
- Ability to learn quickly and apply company policies and procedures
- Strong individual initiative, discipline, and commitment to superior performance and continuous improvement
