As an Advisor in Commercial Trading Compliance, you’ll play a vital role in supporting Phillips 66’s dynamic trading operations. What You’ll Do

  • Support the commercial trading team by ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements across North American gas and power markets.
  • Provide timely, accurate guidance on compliance and regulatory matters, conduct risk-based trade surveillance, and monitor trading activities to identify and address potential exceptions.
  • Evaluate daily trading positions for compliance with exchange limits, maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations, and help develop engaging training to increase awareness among trading personnel.
  • Collaborate with traders, legal, risk management, and other stakeholders to deliver practical compliance solutions and support internal investigations as needed.
  • Interpret and implement regulatory frameworks, partnering with business leaders to design and execute effective compliance processes.
  • Develop and maintain procedures, prepare reports, and recommend policy enhancements to help minimize risk and ensure adherence to evolving standards.
  • Respond to compliance queries, support regulatory filings, and contribute to a culture of integrity and continuous improvement.
  • Take a proactive approach to help the organization navigate complex regulatory environments and maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct.

 

What You’ll Bring – Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years of experience supporting a commercial trading function or a relevant internship.
  • Strong understanding of compliance principles, regulatory frameworks, and internal controls related to commodity trading.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and policies to business operations.
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.

 

 

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge of CFTC, FERC, and ISO rules for power, gas, and renewables markets.
  • Exposure to front- or mid-office trading activities
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience using trade surveillance tools such as Nasdaq Trade Surveillance (NTS) or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems (e.g., Allegro, Right Angle, Aligne, SAP4).
  • Proficiency in creating tailored reports and dashboards using tools like Power BI.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. commodities regulations, including Dodd-Frank and the Commodity Exchange Act.
  • Commercial competence in traded products, markets, and strategies, both physical and financial.
  • Experience developing and delivering compliance training or awareness programs.

 

Compensation Range

This position has a base salary range of $106,200 – $129,800.

Where a candidate offer falls within the posted range depends on the candidate's experience, skills, and alignment with the role’s requirements. The Commercial organization  works to effectively leverage assets and market knowledge to create additional value within the risk parameters of the Company. We do this by maximizing general interest profitability, enhancing return on capital employed by successfully partnering with the Refining, Transportation and Marketing functions to ensure Value Chain Integration.   Our truck and rail fleets support our feedstock and distribution operations.  Rail movements are provided via a fleet of more than 10,000 owned and leased rail cars. Truck movements are provided through numerous third-party trucking companies, as well as through our 100 percent-owned subsidiary, Sentinel Transportation LLC.
