Asset Engineer - Hobbs, NM

The Engineer – Asset is officed in Hobbs, New Mexico and provides technical support to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of pipelines, plants and field assets in and around the Hobbs, NM areas.  Performs trouble shooting and failure analysis and develops recommendations to improve equipment and performance.  Works closely with multiple stakeholders including Operations, EHS, reliability and Commercial.   

 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Monitors plant and gathering system performance, compressor performance and sizing and control systems performance as well as proposes changes to reduce processing upsets, improve reliability, improve efficiencies, increase production and reduce costs.
  • Serves as a technical support for troubleshooting system process problems and operations issues working with all levels of personnel such as operators, mechanics, supervisors, managers, right-of-way (ROW) landmen, attorneys, environmental professionals, etc.
  • Supports and may lead technical and economic evaluation, performance testing, design and construction of new facilities/ equipment or upgrading existing facilities/ equipment while supporting safety and environmental risk management objectives.
  • Builds and maintains various process simulations for plant and compressor stations.
  • Review and ensure application of engineering standards and procedures and provides advice ensuring that standards of quality, cost, safety, reliability, timeliness and performance are met in processes.
  • Plans and supports development engineers with designs of a broad range of engineering projects in collaboration with other internal and/or external stakeholders.
  • Develops and defines project concept, scope, technical requirements, and specifications to ensure compliance with engineering principles, standards, statutes, codes, regulations, and design. Coordinates with clients to plan for project execution and resolves related technical problems.
  • Provides technical support for the Process Safety Management (PSM) of the plant and compressor stations and develops recommendations to reduce process safety risks.
  • Anticipates business or regulatory challenges and recommends process, product or service improvements.
  • Engages in scoping, design, cost estimates, bidding, contractor selection, installation and management of complex projects with the mastery to interpret plans, drawings and specifications.
  • Participates in incident investigations, various kinds of meetings, training and commercial support.
  • Assists in maintaining project records and ensures compliance with government regulations and contracts.
  • Plans, organizes and coordinates projects as well as trains, advises and mentors lower-level Engineers.
  • Performs other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
  • Provide technical support to the process plant, field compressor stations, and HP and LP piping systems for the P66 SENM G&P assets to all internal stakeholders.

 

Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in job posting country.
  • Possess a valid drivers license.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering. 
  • 3 years or more years experience in an Engineering role.
  • Previous engineering experience in the oil and gas industry. 
  • Basic proficiency in process simulation on Promax and VMG/Symmetry or other simulation software packages.
  • Willing and able to perform and comply with the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:
    • Travel to field and training locations 
    • Work in both indoor and outdoor environments, in conditions that may include heat, humidity, or other inclement weather.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection).
    • Lift and transport articles weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Occasionally exert pulling force of 130 pounds.
    • Occasionally climb various ladders.

 
Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations such as DOT 192/195, OSHA 1910.119 and industry standards and practices such as ASTM, API, NACE, ASME, NFPA, DOT, etc.
  • Working knowledge of facility design practices including compression and separation, pumps and fluid flow, piping design, foundation design, structural design, instrument and electrical systems, distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), SCADA design, process control basics and safety systems. Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) including Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Pre-Start-up Safety Review (PSSR), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to influence at a local level and across a broad organization.
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Willing and able to perform and comply with the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:
    • Climb up to 200 feet in height
    • Work in enclosed spaces

Phillips 66's Midstream business is a safe, reliable and trusted logistics provider for the movement and storage of liquid or gas energy via pipelines or terminals. We are an industry leader in logistics and operate or manage more than 22,000 miles of pipelines that transport crude oil from oil fields to refineries and finished products from refineries to storage terminals. We operate 39 terminals that supply finished products to consumer gas stations, as well as crude oil and NGL storage terminals and NGL fractionation facilities. We also provide the connectivity between the various Phillips 66 business units.
