The Rotating Equipment Engineer supports the safe and reliable operation of rotating equipment within the refinery with specific responsibility for rotating equipment within assigned process units. A significant portion of this position is performed in the field within the refinery and involves active participation within a small team of engineers.
Responsibilities may include:
- Participates and promotes all aspects of the refinery safety program. Visibly demonstrates commitment to the workplace safety and health of employees and contractors through personal engagement and sound decisions
- Complies with all refinery site and corporate personal safety requirements, policies, and the Borger Refinery Mechanical Integrity Manual
- Provides Technical support during in-plant and off-site repairs/rebuilds of refinery rotating equipment to API and industry standards on assigned equipment
- Specifies new equipment for purchase as needed in accordance with API, Phillips 66 Refining Engineering Practices (REP), and P66 Required Standards
- Provide technical support for the vibration monitoring program and GE/Bently Nevada 3500 Protection/System1 Performance Monitoring systems
- Actively involved with operations and maintenance planning groups in scheduling of equipment repairs within assigned process units
- Developing, executing, and sustaining an effective preventive/predictive maintenance program for rotating equipment
- Participates in corporate Rotating Equipment Network efforts for knowledge sharing, developing best practices, and reviewing REP standards
- Participates in or leads refinery incident investigation teams for Root Cause Analysis and Latent Cause Analysis
- Participates in expense and capital budget development. Actively promotes cost control and budget awareness within the team
- Complete PSM requirements for rotating equipment such as PHA’s, MOC’s, PSI updates, etc.
- Overseeing of equipment criticality ranking and 'bad actor list' and developing/implementing projects to improve reliability
- Long range planning and scope development of major rotating equipment
- Providing after-hour coverage and assistance during upsets, outages, and major equipment overhauls
Required Qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- 1 or more years of experience in maintenance and/or engineering
- Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Willingness to perform/comply with the following:
- To work in enclosed spaces, such as tanks and silos
- To work near large, hot, high-speed machines
- To work outside in harsh weather conditions
- To climb up to 250 feet in height
- To lift up to 50 pounds
- To wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
- To maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 or more years of experience as a Rotating Equipment Engineer in the refining, chemical, or petrochemical industry
- Working knowledge of API and PIP Rotating Equipment StandardsDirect experience with new equipment installation and commissioning
- Proficient in SAP
- Trained in Root Cause Failure Analysis or Latent Cause Analysis techniques
- Vibration CAT II Certified
The Borger Refinery is located in Borger, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle, approximately 50 miles north of Amarillo, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes primarily medium sour crude oil produced locally, and heavy sour crude oil produced in Canada, all of which are delivered by pipeline. Borger produces a high percentage of transportation fuels, as well as petroleum coke, NGLs and solvents. Refined products are distributed to customers via pipelines from the refinery to West Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and the Midcontinent region.
