Lubricants Technician, Bartlesville Research Center

The Lubricants Technician is part of a scientific research laboratory team working in collaboration with one or more scientists or engineers.  Responsibilities include the safe operation and maintenance of experimental laboratory equipment, blending and testing of lubricants, generation of data and communication of results. The Lubricants Technician will be based in Bartlesville, OK at the Bartlesville Research Center/Bartlesville West location.

 

Responsibilities May include:

  • Maintain a safe laboratory working environment adhering to building and site safety protocols 
  • Conduct work in accordance with Lubricants Management and Research Management Quality Systems
  • Development and review of Standard Operating Procedures and safety systems
  • Collaborating in a team environment with scientists, technicians, support personnel, and managers to ensure safe, accurate, and timely completion of individual assignments and team goals
  • Work safely with a variety of chemicals and lubricants to characterize, check specifications and evaluate performance of samples
  • Commissioning, calibration, operation and maintenance of laboratory, and pilot scale equipment
  • Data collection, organization and recording of experimental details
  • Use of appropriate software (i.e. Microsoft Excel) for data acquisition and reporting of data using LIMS systems
  • Assist in evaluation of experimental results for adjustment of conditions and identification of trends
  • Apply knowledge and creativity to solve technical problems encountered while completing assigned tasks
  • Experimental system design in collaboration with product scientist
  • Operate bench and bulk blending and equipment

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • High School Diploma or GED/equivalent
  • 1 or more years of relevant laboratory experience (professional or college)
  • Willingness and ability (with or without a reasonable accommodation) to perform/comply with following:
    • To work standing for a four (4) hour period
    • To lift a stationary weight of 10-lbs. from bench level to a shelf 18-inches above bench level
    • To respond to sound and system fault light alarms
    • To pour solvents from a 4-L bottle into smaller containers
    • To manipulate high-pressure gas cylinders, use a cylinder cart, and attach a regulator to the cylinder using a wrench
  • Proficient (perform skills with limited assistance) in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, LIMS and other IT systems.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Math, or science related field
  • 1 or more years of experience of laboratory manipulation and calculations
  • 1 or more years of experience in the use of advanced Excel software capabilities
  • 1 or more years of experience in operating and maintaining laboratory testing equipment
  • 1 or more years of experience in wet chemical methods including testing protocols, analytical testing, and instrumental analysis
  • Proven proactive approach to safety with a good working safety record
  • Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
  • Available for occasional overtime on an as needed basis
  • Fast learner, able to recognize the need for non-standard procedures
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures
  • Willingness and ability (with or without a reasonable accommodation) to perform/comply with following:
    • To lift a stationary weight of 40-lbs. from a floor to a bench level
    • To use a drum dolly or cart to manipulate drum-sized containers
    • To operate a forklift in a warehouse / pilot plant environment
