Senior Analyst, Cost Accounting

The Senior Analyst, Cost Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing cost accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, and leading process improvement initiatives. This role involves supervising MSP personnel in cost accounting for refining, midstream and marketing operations, maintaining compliance with intercompany balancing, and supporting strategic projects.
 

Responsibilities May Include:

 

Team Leadership and Oversight:

  • Supervise and guide MSP personnel in cost accounting functions, ensuring accurate and timely execution of tasks.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to the team, fostering a high-performing and collaborative environment.

 

Month-End Close Activities:

  • Oversee critical month-end close activities, including the review and approval of high-priority tasks and journal entries.
  • Ensure adherence to deadlines and accuracy in financial reporting, identifying, and resolving discrepancies effectively.
  • Ensure accurate intercompany balancing of secondary costs across refining, midstream and marketing operations.
  • Review and approve general ledger reconciliations, ensuring alignment with accounting standards and organizational policies.

 

Process Improvement and Strategic Project Support:

  • Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency within the cost accounting function.
  • Collaborate on key projects, such as developing financial statements for new business segments and divestiture and acquisition activity.
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts with relevant stakeholders to meet project objectives and timelines.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Leagally authorized to work in job posting country
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 2 or more years of experience in accounting
  • Strong knowledge of intercompany transactions, general ledger reconciliation, and month-end close processes
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor teams, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP), Blackline and advanced Excel skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to handle complex accounting challenges
  • Experience in the energy industry is highly desirable
  • 5-7 years of experience in accounting
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and fostering innovation within the team
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners
