JOB DESCRIPTION

As the Specialist, Industrial Services,  you will be required to provide specialist technical leadership, planning and coordination for industrial services at Humber Refinery. Accountable for safe, effective and quality-assured delivery of catalyst handling, high-pressure water jetting, industrial cleaning, drain and sewer services, tanker and gulper operations, waste services and related maintenance activities. Independently applies in-depth expertise, directs resources, improves work processes and supports complex maintenance, turnaround and project scopes.

Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities

• Ensure safety is paramount in all aspects of work execution, including permit compliance, risk assessments, safety data, Take Time, safe systems of work and method statements.

• Provide specialist technical leadership for catalyst handling, high-pressure water jetting, tank and vessel cleaning, drains and sewer services, tanker and gulper operations, decontamination, chemical cleaning and waste services.

• Plan and coordinate industrial services jobs, turnaround scopes and project work, including resource loading, planning hours, interfaces, sequencing and readiness.

• Develop short- and medium-term work schedules to achieve planned commitments and recommend or authorise additional resources and overtime within delegated authority.

• Provide field supervision and technical direction for contracted services, ensuring effective use of contractors and compliance with site and contractual requirements.

• Lead contractor performance reviews, resolve performance issues and drive corrective actions and continuous improvement.

• Provide technical support for catalyst loading and unloading, complex cleaning activities and other high-risk or specialist scopes.

• Operate or direct the use of complex industrial cleaning and maintenance equipment, adjusting methods and processes to improve safety, quality and productivity.

• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment, execution and process inefficiencies; guide emergency repairs, major rebuilds and planned installation work where applicable.

• Implement quality assurance processes, verify QA/QC documentation, analyse quality and defect data, identify trends and recommend corrective actions.

• Work with Discipline Supervisors, Schedulers, Area Planners, Operations, Engineering and other stakeholders to maintain accurate schedules, task lists and work packs.

• Drive improvements to PPMs, maintenance workflows, operating practices and industrial services strategies.

• Maintain oversight of the catalyst shed, yard and jet bay standards, equipment, housekeeping and readiness.

• Provide cover and support for the Industrial Services Supervisor and coach coordinators, contractors and work groups in safe and effective methods.

• Execute internal communications in line with established systems and procedures, ensuring stakeholders understand plans, risks, priorities and required actions.

• Execute Minor Maintenance jobs and support Operations Minor Maintenance jobs as required.

Critical Skills (e.g. relevant qualifications, experience, knowledge)

• In-depth knowledge and execution experience in industrial services, including high-pressure water jetting, catalyst handling, tank and vessel cleaning, drains and tanker operations.

• Advanced ability to manage and apply safe systems of work and working knowledge of HSE legislation.

• Comprehensive maintenance experience with the ability to diagnose complex problems and improve equipment and process utilisation.

• Competence in quality assurance methodologies, project quality management, quality systems and tools, and data collection and analysis.

• Experience developing work schedules, allocating resources and supervising or directing people and contractors.

• Working knowledge of contract terms and conditions and contractor performance management.

• Strong planning, organising, attention to detail, problem-solving and verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant maintenance, planning and quality systems, including SAP where required.

• Working knowledge of refinery topography, maintenance workflows, policies and procedures.

• Substantial general and comprehensive job-related experience in the area of expertise.

• Experience supervising and directing people and other resources to achieve defined results.

• IOSH trained, full driving licence, and able to work at height and enter confined spaces where required.

The Humber Refinery is playing its part of the UK’s decarbonisation efforts.  As a part of the UK Government’s net zero ambition, the Humber Refinery is on a journey to become the Refinery of the Future. With proposed plans for a number of projects including to implement a first-of-a-kind FCC carbon capture project, the Humber Refinery is part of Humber Zero, a world-scale concept to reduce UK industry carbon emissions, saving up to 8 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030 from the Immingham industrial area.  On top of this, the Humber Refinery is the UK’s only refiner producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel at scale. It is also the only European facility producing battery anode coke, which forms a critical component for lithium-ion batteries used in electrical vehicles and in consumer electronics. Our current production of battery anode coke is equivalent to placing 1.3 million EVs on the road every year, and we are developing multiple projects to expand this capability.
