JOB DESCRIPTION

 

As a Graduate Rotating Equipment Engineer, you will join The Phillips 66 PREP graduate programme. It is a structured, multi-year development journey that gives high-potential graduates real accountability from day one, with rotations across key business areas, hands-on project ownership, and direct exposure to senior leaders. Through a blend of technical training, professional development, and mentoring, PREP accelerates your growth into a well-rounded energy professional, ready to make a meaningful impact on our business and the future of lower carbon energy. You will also be invited to join our IMechE accredited MPDS scheme designed specifically to ensure you gain all the relevant experience to become a Chartered Engineer as soon as possible. You will be challenged and stretched but also be supported and trusted every step of the way by a trained mentor ensuring you will complete your training while adding value to our dynamic business.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • A strong focus on long term reliability improvements, justifying and recommending reliability improvements projects and equipment enhancements.
  • Setting the optimal scope for repairs to be carried out during shutdowns ensuring the equipment is able to capture the whole market during the next mission time.  
  • Provide technical support assisting operations with troubleshooting discipline equipment issues and recommending correct action.  
  • Understanding, evaluating and forecasting equipment degradation mechanisms to decide future repair scopes 
  • Evaluating as found equipment condition carrying out fitness for service calculations, by hand calculations or Finite Element analysis, etc. to ensure equipment is fit for service. 
  • Re-rating discipline specific equipment for potential increased production capacity 
  • Gain an appreciation of non-discipline specific equipment as well as understanding the roles other department carry out on a complex 24/7 operating refinery

 Requirements/Key Skills:

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or Equivalent
  • Willing to work towards Chartered status
  • Good engineering/technical knowledge 
  • Competent IT knowledge 
  • Strong communications skills 
  • Safety awareness

The Humber Refinery is playing its part of the UK’s decarbonisation efforts.


As a part of the UK Government’s net zero ambition, the Humber Refinery is on a journey to become the Refinery of the Future. With proposed plans for a number of projects including to implement a first-of-a-kind FCC carbon capture project, the Humber Refinery is part of Humber Zero, a world-scale concept to reduce UK industry carbon emissions, saving up to 8 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030 from the Immingham industrial area.


On top of this, the Humber Refinery is the UK’s only refiner producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel at scale. It is also the only European facility producing battery anode coke, which forms a critical component for lithium-ion batteries used in electrical vehicles and in consumer electronics. Our current production of battery anode coke is equivalent to placing 1.3 million EVs on the road every year, and we are developing multiple projects to expand this capability.
