Phillips 66 & You - Together we can fuel the future

As the Manager, Maintenance Excellence for our Wood River Refinery, you will lead maintenance and cost performance efforts that keep our people safe and our assets running reliably. You will guide a team and cross-functional partners to improve maintenance work processes, optimize cost and quality, and drive continuous improvement across the site. This is a visible leadership role where you connect strategy to action, develop other leaders, and help shape how we deliver safe, reliable, and efficient operations every day.

At Phillips 66, Lead Forward is our leadership approach. It defines how leaders show up, make decisions, and support their teams while delivering results in a complex, fast-changing environment. Leaders at this level focus on setting clear direction, building trust, and helping their teams succeed. You’re expected to act with integrity, make timely and thoughtful decisions, and take ownership of outcomes while supporting collaboration across teams. This role is about leading people well, even when priorities change or the path forward isn’t always clear.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead with integrity on safety by modeling safe work practices, leading safety meetings, enforcing permit-to-work and equipment preparation standards, and ensuring maintenance activities are executed safely and in line with refinery procedures.
  • Build and develop a cohesive maintenance excellence team by setting clear expectations, coaching supervisors, analysts, and contractors, recognizing performance, and creating an inclusive environment where people can do their best work.
  • Site lead for cost continuous improvement activities, including development of targets, facilitating idea generation, tracking initiatives, auditing sustainability, and reporting on progress and improvement opportunities.
  • Own routine maintenance cost performance by consolidating monthly budgets, partnering with budget owners on accurate forecasts, reviewing contractor overhead and staffing, and driving continuous improvement in cost efficiency.
  • Strengthen maintenance work processes and standards by aligning site practices with corporate best practices, managing the maintenance procedures system, and training planners and leaders on consistent work execution and cost categorization.
  • Plan and prioritize long-range maintenance work by developing tools and routines to track multi-year plans, ensuring line-item work is clearly defined, budgeted, sequenced, and presented in annual planning cycles so the team has clear direction even as priorities evolve.
  • Improve safety, reliability, and productivity through focused audits of permits, job safety analyses, field execution, scaffolding, rental equipment, and maintenance efficiency, turning findings into practical solutions that increase time on tools and quality of work.
  • Collaborate across maintenance, operations, reliability, planning, and finance to align priorities, remove barriers and silos, invite diverse perspectives into decisions, and jointly deliver safe, on-time, and productive maintenance outcomes.
  • Use data, metrics, and quality methods to analyze trends, evaluate trade-offs, make timely, well-reasoned decisions in changing conditions, and coach others to do the same.
  • Provide support on the Emergency Operations Command role during emergencies (On call rotation) or be a part of the Emergency Response Team.

What You’ll Bring – Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • 10 or more years of relevant working experience in operations, engineering, maintenance, reliability, or related roles in the energy, petrochemical, manufacturing, or related industry
  • Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to comply with the following:
    • Travel up to 5%
    • Operate company vehicle on site premises and/or public roads up to 10%
    • Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, and perform occasional duties
    • Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet
    • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines, around chemicals and hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat, and in harsh weather conditions
    • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment.
    • Maintain face daily for proper respirator/face mask seal (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred

  • Experience in refining, petrochemical, or other heavy industrial maintenance environments
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 or more years of experience leading people or teams
  • 15 or more years of progressive experience in operations, maintenance, or reliability, including leading other leaders
  • Proven success leading maintenance excellence, operations excellence, or cost optimization programs that improved safety, reliability, and cost performance
  • Experience working with maintenance work management, planning and scheduling, and quality management systems, using data and metrics to guide decisions
  • Background using continuous improvement methodologies (such as Lean or Six Sigma) to drive sustainable process and cost improvements
  • Track record of building cross-functional, high-performing teams and scaling collaborative leadership behaviors across an organization
