Basic Function

Trading crude oil within the European and wider Atlantic Basin Commercial business, focusing on creating value from opportunity / speculative trading and supply optimisation of our Downstream system as well as market intelligence to enhance our analytics and market view.

Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilities

• Add value to the Downstream refinery system through  procuring cargos from the West African and Mediterranean regions, on both spot and term basis.
• Optimize P66 refining assets via thorough market coverage and ability to trade around the wider Atlantic basin region
• Buy and sell physical cargoes outside of feedstocks business to add third party value and contribute to an Atlantic Basin trading portfolio.
• Support growth of global crude trading business to include US crude exports and derivatives portfolio.
• Create value from logistics and storage plays (where market structure supports it).
• Complementary derivative trading to add value from market knowledge, when and where appropriate and at discretion of supervisor.
• Contribute to the formation of a broader Atlantic Basin market view and trading strategy through specialist expertise and insights from the WAF market, to ensure that the strategy meets business needs
• Build strong internal relationships with the rest of the Commercial organisation and our key Downstream customers.
• Build relationships and negotiate with external trading counterparties in order to understand their requirements, strategies, drivers, business portfolio and market views.
• Contribute to the development of annual and longer-term business plans across the WAF, Med and Latin America regions; forecasting performance against business key performance indicators (KPIs)
• Liaise with other departments such as risk, contracts, finance and IT, as an ambassador for Global Crude Trading and assisting in the development of capability of back and middle office in support of global crude trading growth.

Essential Skills

• Hold the legal right to live and work in the UK on a permanent basis without restrictions or meet the relevant criteria for employer sponsorship under the UK points-based immigration system.
• Proven ability to make real-time commercial decisions that have a significant financial impact both independently or as part of the trading team.
• Experience and understanding of the international crude and products markets.
• At least 3 years experience trading the West Africa crude markets
• Ability to negotiate and obtain consensus between two or more parties who may have different interests, for the benefit of the organization
• Understanding of risk/hedging tools to manage underlying positions and monetise optionality.
• Ability to interface effectively with internal and external customers, counterparties, suppliers and consultants.
• Collaborative team player with ability to work constructively within a very close and often demanding team-working environment, and interact well with other parts of the group.
• Self-starter with entrepreneurial attitude and desire to grow a business and develop their own role within it.
• Very strong interpersonal and networking skills.

Preferred Skills

• Proven ability to add significant value through trading or marketing experience  in the Mediterranean and Latin America crude markets
• Practical experience of crude or products operations.
• Previous experience with trading/ refinery/ oil movements operations.
• Basic crude oil origination skills.
• Knowledge/ experience of marine issues pertaining to the movement of crude or products.
• Understanding of the characteristics of products and processes in terms of oil refining, including an appreciation of specifications related to world wide supply and demand economics.
• Second business relevant language, such as, but not limited to, Russian, Arabic or French desired but not required.

Additional Information

This role requires some travel (25%) to meet with national oil companies, key counterparties and suppliers, overseas Phillips 66 offices, so willingness to travel is essential.
