Basic Purpose / Accountabilities
As the Sr Advisor, Emerging Energy, you will lead and develop market participation models for new and complimentary business segments that advance Phillips 66's growth in renewable fuels processing , and related emerging energy areas. In this role, you will shape our Emerging Energy strategy by originating, evaluating, and structuring complex commercial opportunities and partnerships that support the energy transition. You will collaborate closely with technical, commercial, business development and functional experts across the company and with external partners to deliver high-value projects and long-term customer solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop market participation models and strategy for renewable fuels, carbon capture and sequestration (CCS), hydrogen, advanced fuels from waste and related areas, identifying and progressing opportunities that grow earnings for the Emerging Energy segment.
- Originate, evaluate, and structure complex transactions, including commercial contracts, growth capital projects, alliances, collaborations, and M&A opportunities across the full project life cycle.
- Manage inbound Emerging Energy opportunities brought forward by project developers, banks, private equity groups, capital funds, technology providers, etc.
- Develop and implement relationship management plans for strategic, complex accounts, building senior-level relationships with customers, partners, and other key stakeholders at local, national, and global levels.
- Consult with customer and partner executives to clarify strategic needs and outcomes and lead cross-functional teams to configure high-value, tailored commercial and technical solutions.
- Prepare and review economic justifications and financial analyses to screen, prioritize, and recommend opportunities based on project economics, risk, and strategic fit.
- Develop an understanding of the Government’s various funding mechanisms for EE projects; engage directly and through industry groups to advocate for PSX positions.
- Hold sufficient prior experience across technical and commercial roles to rapidly screen projects by technical deliverability, commercial viability and counterparty risk.
- Coordinate with Origination, Corporate and Midstream BD as projects and market segment opportunities develop.
- Provide adhoc economic modeling and analysis support for UK groups.
- Liaise with Energy Research & Innovation (ERI) function, Refining Business Improvement (RBI) and providing guidance around business-focused technology selection and acquisition.
- Engage directly with senior civil servants to advocate for PSX Emerging Energy initiatives across CCUS, hydrogen, ETS, renewable fuels and power.
- Coordinate internal resources across Finance, Legal, Projects, Operations, Tax, and other functions to advance major initiatives and ensure operational, commercial, and regulatory alignment.
- Manage the Humber Refinery’s long-term power, steam and emissions strategy, including owning the VPI-Immingham relationship.
- Represent Phillips 66 and the Emerging Energy business at key industry events and in consortia, enhancing the company’s market presence and positioning Phillips 66 as a partner of choice.
- Monitor market, policy, and technology trends in hydrogen, CCS, and renewable fuels, translating insights into strategic options and recommendations for senior leadership.
- Support key functions such as Aviation, Marketing, and Commercial to enhance Renewables performance.

SKILLS
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- Bachelor’s degree
- Significant number of years of direct business development and negotiating experience in an applicable industry such as Oil & Gas, Finance, Banking, or Private Equity
- Good level of experience in industrial industries, business development, commercial activities, or logistics for hydrogen or natural gas
- Proficiency in economic modeling and analysis
- MBA or other advanced degree
- Significant number of years of direct business development experience in the Energy industry or related experience in finance, private equity, or banking
COMPETENCIES
- Proven record of accomplishment in business development for large-scale industrial projects, including origination, screening, economic evaluation, deal structuring, and contract negotiations
- Experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver complex commercial solutions and long-cycle capital projects
- Experience in downstream operations and organization, and in hydrogen, CCS, and renewable fuels businesses, including biomass-based opportunities
- Proficiency with structuring and negotiating complex commercial contracts and partnership arrangements
- Experience working in a build, own, operate environment for energy or industrial assets
- Established industry network and relationships within the hydrogen, CCS, and broader low-carbon energy sectors
- Ability to build strong customer relationships, navigate challenging stakeholder dynamics, and drive results in a fast-evolving market
- Demonstrated strategic mindset, strong business and financial acumen, and ability to manage complex opportunity portfolios using CRM and other sales tools
- Ability to synthesize multiple sources of market analysis for senior management consumption
