Phillips 66 is seeking a Senior AI Readiness Engineer to design, build, and operationalize data governance and AI readiness capabilities within our Enterprise Data Platform. This is a highly hands-on engineering role focused on metadata management, AI readiness, governance automation, data discovery, and Enterprise Data Catalog productization. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, data product owners, and governance leads to evaluate new technologies, implement governance capabilities, and improve how users and AI applications discover, understand, and use Enterprise Data Platform assets.
What You’ll Do
AI Readiness & Metadata Innovation
- Design and execute proofs of concept to evaluate AI readiness approaches and metadata management capabilities.
- Evaluate Databricks Unity Catalog Semantics, Metric Views, Genie, Ontologies, Knowledge Graphs, and comparable technologies.
- Assess metadata patterns that improve AI understanding of business terminology, data discovery, and SQL generation.
- Develop recommendations for metadata standards, AI-readiness criteria, and governance controls.
Business Context Metadata
- Develop and operationalize metadata standards supporting Business Glossaries, Metric Definitions, Semantic Models, Ontologies, Synonyms & Acronyms, Examples of Business Questions
- Support development of Business Context Metadata governance capabilities and lifecycle processes.
Enterprise Data Catalog Productization
- Productize and enhance the Enterprise Data Catalog application
- Expand search, browse, metadata management, ownership visibility, certification status, lineage visualization, and stewardship workflows.
- Integrate Unity Catalog and other governance metadata sources into the catalog experience.
- Support user adoption and continuous improvement.
Metadata Management & Governance Automation
- Implement governance capabilities using Databricks Unity Catalog.
- Configure metadata tagging, metadata validation, lineage integration, quality monitoring, and governance workflows.
- Build governance automation supporting Metadata enrichment, Readiness assessments, Certification workflows, Compliance monitoring, Governance dashboards
Governance Engineering
- Design and develop governance capabilities using Python, SQL, and Databricks.
- Build reusable services, utilities, APIs, and applications supporting governance operations.
- Support onboarding of data products, metadata, and users into governed structures.
- Partner with data stewards and business users to improve data discoverability and AI accessibility.
What You’ll Bring – Required
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
- 3+ years of experience with Python and SQL
- 3+ years of hand-on experience with Databricks Unity Catalog, Genie, Metric Views, and Semantic Layer technologies
What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred
- Experience building Data Catalog or Metadata Management solutions
- Experience implementing metadata tagging, cataloging, and governance automation capabilities
- Experience with Business Glossaries, Ontologies, Knowledge Graphs, or Semantic Metadata
- Experience with Full Stack Development
- Experience with Prompt Engineering and AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with business stakeholders
- Background in energy, manufacturing, logistics, or other asset-intensive industries
Compensation Range
This position has a base salary range of $140,400 – $171,600.
