The Rotating Equipment SME, Midstream Engineering Services, provides technical leadership and engineering support for Midstream projects and operations with primary focus on gas compression, pumps, power generation, and related rotating equipment assets. This role covers equipment including gas compressors, reciprocating compressors, pumps, turbines, electric motors, drivers, and associated auxiliary systems across Midstream facilities.
The position partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Technical Services, and Capital Projects to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of existing facilities while also guiding the design, specification, installation, startup, and optimization of new and modified equipment. This role also helps ensure projects and operating practices align with Phillips 66 internal standards, applicable codes, and industry best practices.
What You’ll Do
- Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise for rotating equipment used in Midstream operations, including gas compressors, reciprocating compressors, pumps, turbines, electric motors, drivers, lube oil systems, seals, cooling systems, and related auxiliary equipment.
- Support Midstream operations by troubleshooting rotating equipment issues at existing facilities and developing practical, data-driven recommendations to improve safety, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Support capital and maintenance projects involving gas compression, power generation, pumps, and related rotating equipment systems from early concept through design, construction, commissioning, startup, and post-startup optimization.
- Review and approve rotating equipment design packages, equipment specifications, vendor drawings, technical bid evaluations, and installation plans to ensure alignment with company requirements and applicable industry codes and standards.
- Develop, maintain, and improve internal engineering standards, specifications, procedures, and best practices related to rotating equipment in Midstream applications.
- Partner with field operations, maintenance, and reliability teams to assess asset condition, failure modes, criticality, and recurring equipment issues.
- Lead or support root cause failure analyses for rotating equipment failures and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Provide engineering input for equipment repairs, upgrades, rerates, overhauls, replacements, and system improvements for existing facilities.
- Support equipment selection and technical evaluation for compressors, pumps, turbines, motors, and supporting systems used in facility expansions, debottlenecks, modernization efforts, and power generation projects.
- Champion reliable operation, maintenance, condition monitoring, and installation practices for critical rotating equipment.
- Support development of procurement and maintenance strategies, inspection plans, operating envelopes, and condition-based reliability improvement programs for critical assets.
- Participate in incident reviews, risk assessments, design reviews, HAZOPs, and other technical evaluations related to rotating equipment scope.
- Work with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, OEMs, EPCs, and engineering contractors to ensure quality technical execution and consistent application of Midstream standards.
- Identify emerging technologies, equipment improvements, and industry practices that can enhance operational reliability, efficiency, and lifecycle cost performance.
- Provide coaching, training, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance to engineers, technicians, and operations personnel across the Midstream organization.
- Represent engineering and reliability interests in cross-functional initiatives and provide technical input to broader organizational improvement efforts.
What You’ll Bring - Required
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering discipline
- 12 or more years of engineering, reliability, maintenance, or project experience supporting rotating equipment in gas compression, midstream, oil and gas, petrochemical, refining, power generation, or related industrial environments
- Demonstrated experience with rotating equipment such as gas compressors, reciprocating compressors, pumps, turbines, electric motors, and associated auxiliary systems
- Experience supporting engineering design, equipment specification, and project execution for rotating equipment installations or modifications
- Working knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and recommended practices related to rotating equipment
- Experience with maintenance and reliability practices, including equipment condition monitoring, performance evaluation, and failure analysis
- Ability to travel as business needs require and work in both office and field environments up to 25%
What Makes You Stand Out - Preferred
- 15 or more years of experience supporting rotating equipment in Midstream or gas compression applications
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to equipment performance, reliability, and operability in existing facilities
- Deep technical expertise in compressor stations, gas processing facilities, pumps, and other Midstream assets
- Experience with gas turbine-driven and motor-driven compression systems
- Experience with power generation systems and projects supporting Midstream facilities
- Experience developing or administering company engineering standards, specifications, and maintenance practices
- Experience leading root cause failure analysis and reliability improvement initiatives for critical rotating equipment
- Familiarity with vibration analysis, condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and performance testing practices
- Experience working with EPCs, OEMs, and third-party engineering service providers
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one
- Experience supporting facility troubleshooting, brownfield modifications, and capital project execution in operating environments
- Participation in relevant industry trade groups such as API, ASME, or GMRC
Compensation Range
This position has a base salary range of $222,300 - $271,700.

Midstream
The Phillips 66 Midstream business is a safe, reliable, and trusted provider for the movement, storage, gathering, and processing of liquid or gas energy via pipelines or terminals. We are an industry leader in logistics and operate or manage more than 70,000 miles of pipelines that transport crude oil from oil fields to refineries and finished products from refineries to storage terminals. We operate 39 terminals that supply finished products to consumer gas stations, as well as crude oil and NGL storage terminals and NGL fractionation facilities. Our capabilities include extensive natural gas gathering and processing operations, enhancing our wellhead-to-market strategy. We also provide the connectivity between the various Phillips 66 business units.
