The Economist/LP Modeler (Sr. Advisor I) determines values and recommends decisions to optimize refinery product mix and maximize full value chain earnings for the region. The refinery LP model will be the primary tool to provide values that will be used in the purchase and sale decisions for the refineries.
The LP Modeler will evaluate refinery economics and purchase/sale breakeven values (BEVs). The LP Modeler will perform ad hoc studies to support company initiatives. The LP Modeler will be accountable for ensuring the LP model is aligned with refinery capability and reflects the current operational constraints.
The LP Modeler will be accountable for key communications: (i) providing technical knowledge of refinery economic drivers, constraints and operations to the VCO and Commercial organization and (ii) providing market knowledge to the refineries relevant to feedstock and product placement optimization. The LP Modeler will also help to drive company business transformation initiatives through special teams and projects. This role will be focused on (i) intermediates and products and (ii) Gulf and East Coast Refineries.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and publish the weekly breakeven reports for Refineries consistent with the Company guidelines.
- Perform ad hoc evaluations for VCO Optimization Directors and Commercial Traders.
- Perform LP analyses of new opportunities.
- Lead weekly touchpoints with Refineries and Commercial Traders to review BEVs and opportunities.
- Evaluate opportunities to swap or re-optimize feedstock purchases or product mix as market conditions allow.
- Develop and maintain a strong working relationship across the Refining system.
- Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the Commercial organization, applicable Traders, and Regional Optimization Manager (ROM).
- Provide regional competitor market intelligence. This may include using additional tools such as HCOMETS and PRISM.
What You’ll Bring - Required
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- 4 or more years of refining experience in the fields of refinery economics, operations, process engineering, and/or fuels blending/scheduling
- Direct experience working with LP modeling
- Experience with AspenTech PIMS Program
- Strong understanding of downstream value chain business drivers
- Intermediate or greater proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PIMS
- Willing and able to travel as needed to visit regional sites
What Makes You Stand Out - Preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering
- 3 or more years of experience in Refinery Planning and Economics
- 5 or more years of experience with AspenTech PIMS
- Skills and proficiency with HCAMS/HCOMET, PI Vision/PI AF
- Visual Basic programming experience
- Strong analytical/data management and communication skills
- Experience quickly developing and maintaining internal and external respect and trust
Compensation Range
This position has a base salary range of $140,400 – $171,600.
