Loss Control Specialist, 3rd Party Terminals

As a Loss Control Specialist, 3rd Party Terminals, you play a critical role in supporting commercial operations by ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant movement and reconciliation of energy products across complex logistics networks. This role operates in a fast-paced commercial environment, partnering closely with Trading, Scheduling, and Operations teams to manage exposure, safeguard value, and enable reliable supply through disciplined analytics and strong external coordination.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Manage end-to-end commercial reconciliation activities across pipelines, terminals, marine, rail, and third-party facilities.
  • Ensure movements, inventories, and custody transfer data are accurately captured and aligned across systems.
  • Analyze daily and monthly balances, monitor variances, and respond quickly to operational disruptions to protect service targets and commercial outcomes.
  • Serve as a key liaison with terminal operators, inspectors, carriers, and internal stakeholders to validate measurement practices, documentation, and contractual compliance.
  • Investigate gains and losses, perform root-cause analysis, escalate risks, and recommend corrective actions to minimize commercial exposure and strengthen controls.
  • Support blending, interface, and linefill accountability at third-party facilities by tracking movements and maintaining analytical tools for higher-risk assets.
  • Validate credits or settlements and ensure deal capture, timing cutoffs, and custody points align with contractual terms and system-recorded volumes.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, KPIs, and reports to monitor asset performance and support month-end close readiness.
  • Provide insights to Trading, Scheduling, and Loss Control leadership.
  • Document procedures and contribute to continuous improvement of commercial analytics, scheduling processes, and training materials.

 

What You’ll Bring – Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3 or more years of commercial, midstream, or energy industry experience supporting scheduling, logistics, measurement, or analytical functions
  • Experience coordinating with internal teams and external counterparties to resolve discrepancies and meet commercial requirements
  • Intermediate or greater proficiency in Microsoft Excel

 

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in crude or refined products scheduling, terminal logistics, or commercial analytics
  • Working knowledge of custody transfer, measurement fundamentals, and petroleum commercial contracts
  • Familiarity with scheduling, logistics, or inventory systems such as SAP, Navarik, or similar tools
  • Experience building dashboards or using data visualization and analytics tools
  • Strong communication, influencing, and relationship-management skills in a fast-paced commercial environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret large, complex data sets

 

Compensation Range 

This position has a base salary range of $125,100 - $152,900.

The Commercial organization  works to effectively leverage assets and market knowledge to create additional value within the risk parameters of the Company. We do this by maximizing general interest profitability, enhancing return on capital employed by successfully partnering with the Refining, Transportation and Marketing functions to ensure Value Chain Integration.   Our truck and rail fleets support our feedstock and distribution operations.  Rail movements are provided via a fleet of more than 10,000 owned and leased rail cars. Truck movements are provided through numerous third-party trucking companies, as well as through our 100 percent-owned subsidiary, Sentinel Transportation LLC.
