The Director, Refining Innovation & Technology provides enterprise-wide leadership for developing and executing Digital Operations initiatives across all Phillips 66 refining locations, identifying and advancing high-value projects that improve HSE, reliability, margin, and cost performance. The role leads the Refining innovation function by translating enterprise strategy into clear objectives and actionable plans, partnering across refineries, IT, and other business units to drive digital transformation and accelerate technology adoption. This position also leads and manages complex, enterprise-wide agile initiatives, guiding technology and process choices to achieve intended outcomes.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Lead enterprise Technology Innovation and Digital Operations across Refining: prioritize initiatives and deliver gains in HSE, reliability, margin, and cost.
  • Align digital roadmaps with enterprise strategy: partner with IT, Refinery SMEs, Refinery sites, and Midstream to accelerate adoption.
  • Translate strategy into site-level plans: drive deployment, sustainment, and value realization across refineries.
  • Develop business cases: select cost-effective, scalable technologies that strengthen network competitiveness.
  • Advise the Refining management team: provide options, tradeoffs, expected value, and recommendations.
  • Act as digital ops SME: track emerging tech/market trends and lead vendor evaluations for fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Oversee portfolio governance: support selection, sequencing, and resourcing aligned to Refining strategy and outcomes.
  • Set standards and governance (incl. sustainability): ensure secure, supportable, repeatable Digital Operations deployments.
  • Lead complex, enterprise agile delivery: enable cross-functional teams, manage change, and achieve intended outcomes.

 

What You’ll Bring – Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a STEM or related field
  • 10 or more years of experience in the Refining or Petrochemicals industry
  • 10 or more years of experience in process operations or technology-focused roles
  • Strong knowledge of digital developments, including experience developing and coordinating digital strategies
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

Compensation Range 

This position has a base salary range of $176,400 - $215,600.
