The Advisor III, Demurrage plays a critical role in supporting marine and commercial operations by ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant review and settlement of demurrage activities. This role partners closely with internal stakeholders and external counterparties to mitigate delays, reduce costs, and support continuous improvement across demurrage processes, while operating within established authority levels and policies.
What You’ll Do
- Review, analyze, negotiate, and settle demurrage claims related to marine voyages, including claims owed to or filed against the company.
- Ensure all contractual obligations and time bars are met in accordance with charter party and commercial agreement terms.
- Partner with Marine, Commercial Trading, Supply Chain, and Logistics teams to provide guidance on demurrage matters and support equitable claim resolution.
- Capture and analyze root causes of vessel delays to support reporting, cost recovery efforts, and operational improvements.
- Maintain accurate and auditable records by entering claims into the system of record within required timelines.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, authority limits, and assurance processes.
- Support global demurrage initiatives by contributing to team goals, training, and stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborate on contract language reviews related to laytime and demurrage provisions.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external parties to respond to inquiries, prepare documentation, and support informed, timely decision-making.
What You’ll Bring – Required
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.
- Bachelor’s degree or maritime-related education
- 3+ years of experience
- Intermediate proficiency in reviewing and administering claims or comparable commercial/operational activities within established procedures.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new systems and tools.
What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred
- Intermediate proficiency with systems such as IMOS, SAP, Navarik, and reporting tools like Power BI.
- Bilingual proficiency, particularly Spanish.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
- Experience with demurrage, marine operations, charter parties, or commercial contracts.
- Ability to influence and negotiate fair settlements with external counterparties.
Compensation Range
This position has a base salary range of $121,500 - $148,500.

The Commercial organization works to effectively leverage assets and market knowledge to create additional value within the risk parameters of the Company. Our truck and rail fleets support our feedstock and distribution operations. Rail movements are provided via a fleet of more than 10,000 owned and leased rail cars. Truck movements are provided through numerous third-party trucking companies, as well as through our 100 percent-owned subsidiary, Sentinel Transportation LLC.
