Industrial Placement

A placement with Phillips 66 is more than a job that will look good on your curriculum vitae (CV). It's an excellent opportunity to roll up your sleeves and make important contributions as a valued member of our team. With the diverse scope of our operations and global footprint, the experience you gain will be tremendous and it is the best way to get a head start on your career. 

Our recruitment typically starts in Autumn each year with assessment centres and interviews taking place at on our UK locations before Christmas. Start dates for our placement’s opportunities are usually the following summer. 

  • Procurement & Contracts Roles

    Contracts Analyst: Co-ordinate and maintain the trading agreements which support the buying and selling of physical crude oil, feedstocks, refined products, and renewables commodities. Support Trading and Operations, plus interaction with other functions for contractual concurrence. 

    Procurement Analyst: Support sourcing and contracting processes for Refining and Marketing operations in the UK. You will assist in the implementation of specific functional goals and provide the focal point for transactional procurement and tendering.

  • Marketing Roles

    Brand Analyst: Provide qualitative and quantitative data analysis of the UK Retail business, including our company-owned JET petrol filling stations, and communicate findings and trends in service of brand marketing and retail business activity. Drive value creation through data-driven brand marketing solutions utilising consumer and customer segmentation, benchmarking, external market data and internal data. 

  • Finance Roles

    Finance Analyst: Primarily supporting the trading and supply operations of our European crude oil and refined products business in a fast paced and dynamic environment, involving significant interaction with various groups including Treasury, Trading, Operations, Marketing and Finance Management.  

  • Engineering Roles

    An engineering placement student will support our Humber Refinery, one of the most sophisticated and complex operations in Europe. Your focus may range from major capital project support to plant optimisation, assisting your team with: 

    • Initial project development studies. 
    • Developing process, civil, electrical/instrumentation or mechanical engineering designs. 
    • Assisting with project management and procurement activities. 
    • Drive continuous improvement of designs and design practices.

    Our commercial graduate roles have included Risk Analysis, Market Analysis, Operations Support and Demurrage.  

  • Marketing Roles

    Phillips 66 Limited markets retail and wholesale products across the UK and Europe, with more than 1,270 petrol stations. We supply a variety of customers, ranging from stations and supermarkets to third party resellers under the JET and Phillips 66 brands. Our Marketing graduate roles include Sales Support and Supply Operations, supporting our Retail and Wholesale businesses. This involves: 

    • Developing new and deepening current customer focused relationships to grow product sales. 
    • Ensuring that products can be transported safely and cost efficiently from our terminals to our delivery points.  
    • Managing all customer queries in a proactive manner throughout the supply chain. 
    • Doing everything that we do with health, safety and the environment as a key focus. 
  • Refining Roles

    Whether you’re a chemical, electrical, mechanical or instrument engineer, there’s a place for you at Phillips 66. To prepare you in your new career, our new hire programme consists of significant training and development within the first five years of employment. You’ll have the opportunity to utilize your existing knowledge while building new skill sets.

  • Professional Refining Engineering Program (PREP)

    This three-year programme is a comprehensive development roadmap for early career engineers at Phillips 66. Engineers learn from internal and external experts for one to two weeks each year. This includes the following programme benefits: 

    • Executive exposure. 
    • Technical and high-level refining presentations by internal and external experts. 
    • Introduction to functional excellence team resources. 
    • Networking and team building with other early career engineers.
