The Cavern Engineer provides Phillips 66 with Underground Storage Cavern expertise by providing engineering technical support and problem solving for all cavern and disposal well related issues including but not limited to regulation, design, construction, commissioning, operations, decommissioning and P&A.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Design, conduct, manage and provide technical oversight for mechanical integrity testing (MIT) and workovers of cavern and disposal wells according to Phillips 66 policy requirements, applicable regulations, and industry standards.
- Prescribe and maintain cavern operating level and pressure alarm setpoints.
- Provide technical evaluation of cavern and well performance and integrity, including troubleshooting when required.
- Participate in industry groups to contribute, review, and editing of cavern industry related documents and guidance.
- Participate in the development of cavern integrity budgets, based on historic expense costs and market conditions.
- Participate in internal Caverns Knowledge Sharing Network and manage the requirements of Phillips 66 Cavern policies
Required:
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Geological or Petroleum preferred)
- 5 or more years of experience in cavern integrity or cavern operations
- Must office at P66 Houston Headquarters
- Willing and able to travel up to 10% of the time
Preferred:
- 5 years relevant experience including but not limited to a solid understanding of salt cavern geomechanics, wellhead / casing / wellbore fundamentals, service rig or drilling rig fundamentals, well completions, e-line log interpretation hydraulic analysis, oilfield tool and equipment specifications, and regulatory requirements in the jurisdictions in which Phillips 66 operates in the United States
- Demonstrated ability to drive process development or program related projects to completion

- Understands and uses technical expertise to contribute to the success of the business

Midstream
Phillips 66's Midstream business is a safe, reliable and trusted logistics provider for the movement and storage of liquid or gas energy via pipelines or terminals. We are an industry leader in logistics and operate or manage more than 22,000 miles of pipelines that transport crude oil from oil fields to refineries and finished products from refineries to storage terminals. We operate 39 terminals that supply finished products to consumer gas stations, as well as crude oil and NGL storage terminals and NGL fractionation facilities. We also provide the connectivity between the various Phillips 66 business units.
