Contract Analyst

The Contract Analyst reports to the Director of Finance with close consultation with and input from the Managing Counsel - North America Commercial, Lubes and Marketing. This position is primarily responsible for ensuring that our commodity transactions are appropriately documented with discrepancies expeditiously resolved. The Contracts Analyst is designed to provide the successful candidate with a wide range of exposure to crude oil trading, legal, scheduling and finance.


Responsibilities May Include:

  • Entering all transactions in our deal capture system (SAP S4) daily, ensuring that all details of transactions correspond to the applicable deal ticket and assist with resolving any potential errors.
  • Sending transaction confirmations to third parties; review incoming confirmations or other external feedback for discrepancies and resolve to completion; follow-up with traders, legal, counterparties and/or brokers as required.
  • Assisting with master agreement and General Terms & Conditions negotiations with counterparties while obtaining feedback from and acting as a liaison with Legal, Credit and other internal groups.
  • Ensuring all documentation is handled in strict accordance with internal Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls, processes and other internal policies.
  • Coordinating counterparty responses and internal approvals for new counterparty set ups.


Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • University Degree or College Diploma from an accredited institute
  • Working knowledge of crude oil commodity contracts
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Ability to resolve contract issues on a basic level

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as reading comprehension abilities
